Here are the Review-Journal’s Fall Athletes of the Year

A look at the athletes of the year for the fall sports season.

Boys cross country

Anthony Ocegueda, Reed

The senior won the Class 4A state meet in 15 minutes, 12 seconds. He won five meets and was fifth in the Northern Region meet with a time of 17:03.

Girls cross country

Samantha King-Shaw, Reed

The senior won the Class 4A state meet in 18 minutes, 9 seconds. She was first in the Northern Region meet in 19:52 and placed first or second in eight races.

Football

Tate Martell, Bishop Gorman

The senior passed for 2,362 yards and 41 TDs with just one interception. He rushed for 1,257 yards and 21 TDs, and was named the Southwest League Offensive MVP and Gatorade National Player of the Year. Martell committed to Ohio State.

Girls golf

Victoria Estrada, Coronado

The sophomore shot 2-over 146 to earn medalist honors at the Class 4A state tournament and carded a 4-under 68 to win the Sunrise Region title. She had a team-best 70.0 scoring average.

Boys soccer

John Lynam, Coronado

The junior led Southern Nevada with 35 goals and 92 points. He was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team and was the Southeast League’s Offensive Player of the Year. He helped guide the Cougars to the Sunrise Region title and a second-place finish at state.

Girls soccer

Macee Barlow, Palo Verde

The senior forward, who committed to the University of Denver, had 27 goals and 14 assists to help the Panthers to a state runner-up finish. She was named the Northwest League Offensive Player of the Year.

Boys tennis

Ben Gajardo, Desert Oasis

The senior claimed the Class 4A singles state championship and Sunset Region title. He was named to the All-Sunset Region first team and helped the Diamondbacks to a second-place finish in the Sunset Region team tournament.

Girls tennis

Audrey Boch-Collins, Clark

The freshman won the Class 4A state singles title and lost only three games in her six sets during the tournament. She also won the Sunset Region title and made the All-Sunset Region first team.

Girls volleyball

Sydney Berenyi, Silverado

The junior outside hitter was the Class 4A Sunrise Region Player of the Year and helped the Skyhawks to the region title. Berenyi led the state with 524 kills (5.1 per set) and had a .484 hitting percentage.

Coronado girls down Gorman for 5A volleyball region title

The Coronado girls volleyball team swept Bishop Gorman to win the Class 5A Southern Region final Saturday at Palo Verde. Both teams advance to the state tournament.
