GOLF: Jack Trent shoots 5-under to lead Palo Verde to victory

Palo Verde’s Jack Trent earned medalist honors with a 5-under-par 66 at TPC Las Vegas on Tuesday, six strokes better than the second-place finisher, to carry the Panthers’ boys golf team to victory in a Northwest League match.

The Panthers shot 392 as a team, beating Faith Lutheran (425), Centennial (451), Arbor View (481), Shadow Ridge (499) and Cimarron-Memorial (587).

Jason Fredrickson shot 72 for the Bulldogs to come in second place. Arbor View’s Cameron Gambini (74) and Hazen Newman (75) were next, and Jared Ramsay’s 75 for the Crusaders rounded out the top five.

Coronado dominates Southeast League match

At Chimera Golf Club, the Cougars placed golfers in each of the first four spots to roll to a Southeast League victory.

Brett Sodetz carded a 5-under 67 to earn medalist honors, followed by teammates Dylan Fritz (67), Joey Dotta (68) and Benjamin Sawaia (70).

The Cougars shot 345 as a team. Foothill came in second with 384, then Liberty (430), Green Valley (453), Basic (477) and Silverado (502).

Noah MacFawn shot 71 for Foothill to place fifth.

Mitchell Abbot leads Bishop Gorman to victory

At Siena, Mitchell Abbot shot a 4-under 68 to earn medalist honors and power the Gales to victory in a Southwest League match.

The Gaels shot 363, beating Sierra Vista (415), Desert Oasis (440) and Bonanza (516).

Devin Heiman shot 72 for the Diamondbacks to place second. Bishop Gorman’s Joseph Williams and Skyler Ngo shot a 73 to tie with Clark’s Arpepanya Phonsavanh for third place.
