SOFTBALL: Lincoln County routs Laughlin in 2A bracket, advances to 12th consecutive region final

Lincoln County’s softball team earned a 15-0 win over Laughlin in the losers’ bracket final of the Class 2A Southern League at Mountain View on Friday move into its 12th consecutive region final.

The Lynx (22-8), who have won seven straight region titles, will face Needles (22-3) in the championship at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Mountain View. Lincoln County must win twice to keep its region title streak alive.

The Mustangs will be seeking their first region title since 2009.

Needles 11, Lincoln County 2 — The Mustangs defeated the Lynx earlier in the day in the winners’ bracket final to move into the 2A Southern League final unbeaten.

It was the second time Needles topped Lincoln County this season. The teams split their regular-season meetings.

Laughlin 17, Lake Mead 15 — Winning pitcher Lori Morgon went 5-for-6 with a double, triple, four runs scored and three RBIs, and the Cougars used a 10-run third inning to pull away from the Eagles in an elimination game.

Morgon tossed a complete game with five strikeouts and one walk.

Carissa Wollerton was 3-for-6 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, and Mary Smith was 2-for-5 with a triple, four runs and two RBIs for Laughlin.

Leila Lucero and Sam Sarinana each finished 3-for-5 for the Cougars, who led 13-9 after three innings and 15-12 after six innings.

Josey White was 5-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, four runs and five RBIs to lead Lake Mead (12-9).

Kayla Freund was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, Lauryn Freund was 3-for-5 with three runs, and Jacea Tillman and Luca Ford each tripled for the Eagles, who also got a double from Jillian Morejon.

Class 1A

Indian Springs 21, Tonopah 14 — At Indian Springs, the Thunderbirds outslugged the Muckers (13-10-2) in the losers’ bracket final to advance to the Class 1A Southern League final.

It was the third time Indian Springs defeated Tonopah this season.

The Thunderbirds (14-9) will host Pahranagat Valley (26-4) — the four-time defending state champion — in the region final at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Pahranagat Valley has won all three meetings with Indian Springs this season.

Pahranagat Valley 15, Indian Springs 0 — The Panthers routed the Thunderbirds earlier in the day in the winners’ bracket final to advance to the region final unbeaten.

Tonopah 7, Round Mountain 6 — The Muckers edged the Knights (12-9-1) in the losers’ bracket final.
