Palo Verde’s Jack Trent wins Champions Invitational

Palo Verde senior Jack Trent shot a 1-over-par 73 on Saturday to win the individual title at the Champions Invitational at The Golf Club at Terra Lago in Indio, California.

Trent, who entered the final round with a one-stroke lead, had a 54-hole total of 6-under 210 and won by four shots over Eddy Lai of Bellarmine (Calif.). Noah Woolsey of Amador Valley (Calif.) was third at 215, and Ryan McCoy of Great Oak (Calif.) took fourth at 216. McCoy was second after Friday’s rounds, but shot 78 on Saturday.

Trent’s efforts helped the Panthers finish third in the team standings. Servite (Calif.) won the team title with a total of 896. Palm Desert (Calif.) was second at 909. Palo Verde won a tiebreaker over San Clemente (Calif.) after both teams finished at 913.

Coronado tied for 16th at 947. Bishop Gorman tied for 27th at 964, and Arbor View tied for 48th at 1,065.

Gorman’s Mitchell Abbott finished tied for 11th individually. He shot 77 on Saturday to finish at 223. Coronado’s Ben Sawaia shot 80 to finish in a tie for 19th at 227.
