ARBOR VIEW

Head coach: Ron Cyrankowski, first season

Returning lettermen: Two

Top golfers: Cameron Gambini (Jr.), Hazen Newman (So.)

Outlook: The Aggies have 12 players on their roster, but not a senior among them.

Cyrankowski also highlighted the potential in freshman Preston Harris.

“We are very young,” Cyrankowski said. “The program outlook is very promising with player development.”

Head coach: Jimmy Wilson, fourth season

Returning lettermen: Five

Top golfers: Jeff Swaim (Sr.), Zach Longman (Sr.), Gavin Mangan (Sr.)

Outlook: Five lettermen return for the Wolves.

“I have high expectations for this team,” Wilson said. “The returning lettermen have a lot of experience with the courses we play, and we should have some make the regional tournament.

“We also have some newcomers that could really impact our scoring average in a very positive way. I very much look forward to this season.”

BISHOP GORMAN

Head coach: Jim Stanfill, sixth season

Returning lettermen: Four

Top golfers: Mitchell Abbott (Jr.), Joseph Williams (Jr.)

Outlook: Abbott was a state tournament qualifier last season and should be among the leaders on the squad.

“Having graduated two starting seniors after the 2016 season, open spots have brought in new players to complement the current mix of returners,” Stanfill said. “This will be a building year, getting to know and understand our new players.

“We added two freshmen, a sophomores and three seniors, all of whom will be competing to be in the top six positions.”

BONANZA

Head coach: Cheryl Speer, fourth season

Returning lettermen: One

Top golfers: Baylee Osborne (Fr.), Andrew Kolb (Sr.), Frank Hawley (So.)

Outlook: The Bengals lack experience, but are hoping to make up for it with hard work.

“My players have limited golf experience but are working hard every day to improve,” Speer said. “They have individual and team goals and are looking forward to meeting those goals.”

CANYON SPRINGS

Head coach: Richard Dallas, second season

Returning starters: Three

Top golfers: Dominic David (Jr.)

Outlook: The Pioneers are hoping to continue to show improvement this season.

“We’re looking forward to an enjoyable season, building from the previous year and developing players’ skills,” Dallas said.

CENTENNIAL

Head coach: Michael Stamcoff, seventh season

Returning lettermen: Five

Top golfers: Jacob Sherwood (Sr.), Dillon Gault (Sr.), Jason Fredrickson (Jr.), Tyler Prendez (Jr.), Allen Rivas (So.)

Outlook: Fredrickson (79.5 stroke average), Sherwood (80.2) and Gault (82.0) give the Bulldogs a solid trio atop their lineup. A year more experienced, Prendez (96.2) and Rivas (106) also are ready to contribute.

“We hope to qualify for regionals as a team and have a few individuals qualify for state,” Stamcoff said.

CHAPARRAL

Head coach: Chris Brody, third season

Returning lettermen: Five

Top golfers: Danny Hubley (Jr.), Josue Marin (So.), Adrian Garcia (Sr.)

Outlook: The Cowboys bring back five lettermen, including Hubley (104 average), Marin (105) and Garcia (106).

“We are working on consistency and focus this year,” Brody said. “Each golfer needs to prepare for each round and make adjustments. Our goal is to keep our team average close to regional contention and to reduce the scores of all of our golfers.

“We want to have fun but be competitive.”

CIMARRON-MEMORIAL

Head coach: Dave Fields, fourth season

Returning lettermen: Two

Top golfers: Patrick Coughlin (Sr.), Josh Knapp (Sr.), Logan Wright (Sr.)

Outlook: The Spartans bring back a pair of golfers from last year’s squad in Knapp and Wright and welcome the addition of Coughlin.

“We’re looking forward to achieving a legit team score,” Fields said.

CLARK

Head coach: Clarence Chun, seventh season

Returning lettermen: Four

Top golfers: Arpepanya Phonsavanh, Jody Paulsen

Outlook: The Chargers return four lettermen and hope to be in the hunt in their return to Class 4A.

“We want to have fun and improve,” Chun said. “Our goal is to be competitive.”

Head coach: Joe Sawaia, 17th season

Returning lettermen: Three

Top golfers: Dylan Fritz (So.), Joey Dotta (So.), Brett Sodetz (Fr.), Ben Sawaia (Fr.)

Outlook: The Cougars return three lettermen from the team that finished second in the Division I state tournament last year.

“The team will be extremely young, but talented,” Joe Sawaia said. “We expect to compete for the state title.”

DEL SOL

Head coach: Kendel Chrysler, second season

Returning lettermen: Two

Top golfers: Angel Greer (So.), Noah Lytle (Jr.), Julian Haywood (Sr.), Sebastian Sandoval (So.), Lydon McGuckin (Fr.)

Outlook: The Dragons will have some new faces this year as only two lettermen return.

“Del Sol is rebuilding and hoping to make a push toward an individual region qualifier or two this season,” Chrysler said.

DESERT OASIS

Head coach: Kelly Perryman, ninth season

Returning lettermen: Four

Top golfers: Devin Heiman (Jr.), Zachary Blake (So.), Matthew Bernard (Sr.), Isaiah Fierro (Jr.)

Outlook: Heiman qualified for the Division I state tournament last year. Blake, Bernard and Fierro all were region tournament qualifiers.

“It’s great to be back in the Southwest (League),” Perryman said. “Our top four look to improve beyond last year’s accomplishments.”

DURANGO

Head coach: John Mausbach, seventh season

Returning lettermen: One

Top golfers: Reese Vertrees (Sr.)

Outlook: Vertrees was a Sunset Region tournament qualifier last season and is the lone returning letterman for the Trailblazers.

“Our expectation is to have state qualifiers,” Mausbach said.

ELDORADO

Head coach: Jill Yacubovich, first season

Returning lettermen: One

Top golfers: Matthew Manganello (So.)

Outlook: Manganello was the Sunrise Region champion last season and leads an eager group.

“This looks to be a very exciting year,” Yacubovich said. “For the first time in several years, the Sundevils will have six golfers competing in matches. Although several of them are new to the sport, they are very driven to learn the game and hope to make it to the back nine as the season goes on.

“Christian Dean looks to improve his swing and make the cut score to join Matthew in making a run to competing at the state tournament.”

FAITH LUTHERAN

Head coach: Mark Cheney, sixth season

Returning lettermen: Six

Top golfers: Charlie Magruder (Sr.), Greg Price (Jr.), Jared Ramsay (Sr.)

Outlook: Magruder, who has signed to play golf at Gonzaga, was the Division I-A state champion in 2014 and 2016. He joins Price (77.5 stroke average) and Ramsay (80 average) atop the Crusaders’ lineup.

“With the loss of five seniors, the competition for the last three spots is wide open,” Cheney said. “In making the move back to (Class) 4A, the Crusaders are embracing the challenge and the opportunity to play with the best.”

FOOTHILL

Head coach: Paul DeSantis, seventh season

Returning lettermen: Six

Top golfers: Noah MacFawn (So.), Jordan Hughett (Sr.), Alex Friday (Sr.)

Outlook: The Falcons return six lettermen and hope to play in the postseason.

“Our goal is qualify for the region and state championships,” DeSantis said. “We want to be in the big events and have a chance at winning them.”

GREEN VALLEY

Head coach: Greg Murphy, 12th season

Returning lettermen: Four

Top golfers: Ty Klabacka (Sr.), Nolan Perns (Sr.)

Outlook: The Gators bring back four lettermen and hope to qualify for the Sunrise Region meet.

“We want to improve as a person and golfer daily,” Murphy said.

LEGACY

Head coach: Jeremy Thornton, 11th season

Returning lettermen: One

Top golfers: Ryan Mercado (So.), Devin Garrett (Sr.)

Outlook: Garrett is the lone returning letterman for the Longhorns, who are hoping to improve throughout the season and have qualifiers for postseason play.

“We are hoping to get a regional qualifier this season out of Devin and/or Ryan,” Thornton said. “It would be the first regional qualifers since 2009.”

LIBERTY

Head coach: Kih Gourrier, fifth season

Returning lettermen: Three

Top golfers: Patrick Dao (Sr.), Ethan Hill (Sr.), Justin Opinsky (Fr.)

Outlook: The Patriots bring back just three lettermen and are hoping to get up to speed quickly.

“We have a very young team,” Gourrier said. “We’re looking to show improvements throughout the year.”

MOJAVE

Head coach: Jerry Raso, first season

Returning lettermen: One

Top golfers: Marcus Mullins (Jr.)

Outlook: Raso takes over a squad that returns only one letterman and is focused on individual improvement.

PAHRUMP VALLEY

Head coach: Bob Hopkins, 16th season

Returning lettermen: Four

Top golfers: Austen Ancell (Sr.), Case Murphy (Sr.), Craig Moore (Jr.), Mike McDougall (Jr.)

Outlook: Ancell is the top returning golfer in Class 3A. He won the Division I-A individual state title in 2015 and finished second to Faith Lutheran’s Charlie Magruder last season.

Ancell leads a group of four returning lettermen for the Trojans, who are coming off finishing second in last year’s state meet.

“We lost five seniors off of that team, so we have a lot of work to do,” Hopkins said. “Case, Craig and Mike have improved since last year. We feel we should be able to contend for the Sunset League championship and qualify for regionals.”

PALO VERDE

Head coach: Todd Steffenhagen, sixth season

Returning lettermen: Five

Top golfers: Jack Trent (Sr.), Cameron Meeks (Sr.), Jett Isoda (Sr.)

Outlook: The Panthers bring back five lettermen from a squad that won the Division I state title last year.

Trent, a UNLV commit, is a two-time individual state champion. Meeks, a Loyola Marymount commit, won the Sunset Region title and was fourth at last year’s state meet. Isoda placed 12th at the state meet.

“With a senior-led group of returners, we’re looking to duplicate last season’s success,” Steffenhagen said.

RANCHO

Head coach: Anthony DiOrio, fourth season

Top golfers: Paul Nawrocki (Fr.), Dillon Cassell (Fr.)

Outlook: The Rams are hoping their young players can help the team be successful.

“It’s a very young team,” DiOrio said. “We have some good athletic freshmen that we are adding to the team.”

SHADOW RIDGE

Head coach: Steven Huesch, eighth season

Returning lettermen: Three

Top golfers: Mitchell Stark (Sr.), Julian Valencia (Sr.), Bryce Huesch (Jr.)

Outlook: Stark was a Sunset Region tournament qualifier last season and is one of three returning lettermen for the Mustangs.

“We are a more rounded team this year and looking to improve on last year’s stats,” Steven Huesch said. “I hope to have at least three players make it to regionals and at least one player make it to state.

“We are a young team with only two seniors. This is a great group of boys, and they enjoy their time on the course with each other.”

SILVERADO

Head coach: Jason Lundblad, second season

Returning lettermen: Five

Top golfers: Thomas Kirchner (Jr.), Peyton Stage (Jr.), Jacob Eisenzimmer (Jr.)

Outlook: More than half of the Skyhawks’ roster last season were freshmen or sophomores. A year older, the team is hoping the experience will show on the scorecards.

“We want to improve on last year’s finish,” Lundblad said.

Head coach: David Shelton, fifth season

Returning lettermen: One

Outlook: Only one letterman returns for the Roadrunners, who are hoping to show improvement as the season progresses.

VALLEY

Head coach: Steven Flasza, fifth season

Returning lettermen: Four

Top golfers: Franz Agustin (Jr.)

Outlook: The Vikings return four lettermen and are hoping to show improvement.

“Valley is hoping to compete for the top team score in the Northeast League matches and make personal improvements on a weekly basis,” Flasza said.

WESTERN

Head coach: Susanne Bohen, fifth season

Returning lettermen: Five

Top golfers: Jared Smith (So.), Patrick Tasanaroungrong (So.)

Outlook: Smith qualified for the Division I-A Southern Region tournament last year and is one of five returning lettermen for the Warriors.

“We’re anticipating Jared Smith to qualify for the state tournament and Patrick (Tasanaroungrong) to qualify for the region tournament,” Bohen said.
