CROSS COUNTRY: Milton Amezcua leads Green Valley boys to win

Green Valley boys cross country runner Milton Amezcua won the 3.1-mile race Wednesday at Cornerstone Park, and the Gators had four of the top five finishers to win a eight-team meet at Cornerstone Park.

Green Valley scored 22 points, well ahead of second-place Tech (63). Lake Mead and Valley each scored 91 points, followed by Boulder City (120).

Amezcua crossed the finish line with a time of 17 minutes, 21.7 seconds to hold off Valley’s Joshua Nyberg (17:24.6).

Lenny Rubi of Green Valley was third in 17:53.4, the same time as teammate Omar Rubio. Green Valley’s Dartanyon Jones was close behind in fifth at 17:53.7.

Girls

At Cornerstone Park, three Tech individuals finished in the top five in the 3.1-mile race to carry the Roadrunners to a victory in the seven-team meet.

The Roadrunners scored a 28, besting Valley (52) and Green Valley (69).

Green Valley’s Amy Amezcua finished first with a time of 20:47.8.

Valley’s Isabella Davis was second in 21:28.5, followed by Tech’s Eden Tesfay (22:28.8), Diamond Morris (22:31.7) and Eri Leong (22:34.5).
