Key dates for the upcoming fall sports season

Summer is winding down and there are only a couple of weeks left until the start of the 2016 fall sports season.

Here is a list of key dates in August, set by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association for the 2016-17 school year.

As a reminder, with the new realignment, there no longer will be Division I, I-A, III or IV, but instead Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.

August

3-6: Football heat acclimatization period

8-10: Period of non-contact practice for football

8-20: Dead periods for Winter and Spring sports

11-19: Period of contact practice for football

13: First day of practice for Fall sports

15: Deadline Winter sports transfers/appeals

15-19: First day for football scrimmages

23: First possible day for football contests

25: First possible day for Fall sports contests
