RECRUITING: Desert Pines’ Edgar Burrola commits to Arizona
June 8, 2016 - 7:00 pm
Edgar Burrola became the second Desert Pines football player in the class of 2017 to commit to Arizona when he announced his pledge to the school Wednesday.
The 6-foot-6-inch, 293-pound lineman, a transfer from Palo Verde, joined teammate Tony Fields as Wildcat commits just a few days after visiting the campus. Burrola’s commitment is nonbinding, and Arizona’s coaches cannot comment until he signs a letter of intent.
“It was a great campus, good environment,” said Burrola, who visited the campus Sunday. “It was hot, but so is Vegas. I’m just happy to be a Wildcat.
“I’ve already built a strong relationship with the coaching staff. And I wanted to get it out of the way and focus on the (upcoming) season.”
Burrola, a two-star prospect, according to Scout.com, projects as an offensive guard or tackle at the collegiate level. He spent two seasons on the varsity at Palo Verde but moved to the Desert Pines area in May.
Palo Verde typically has run a double-wing offense, so Burrola will quickly have to learn a new scheme this season. Desert Pines runs a spread offense.
“It’s motivating and makes me want to work harder,” Burrola said. “So that’s more exciting to compete with guys like that. It’s a good environment and learning experience.”
Burrola picked Arizona over offers from Adams State and Idaho.
“They’re going to get a physical player,” Burrola said. “A hard-working player. Someone who is just dedicated to the game.”
He became the fourth Desert Pines player in the class of 2017 to commit to a Division I school. He joins Fields, Marckell Grayson (UNLV), Randal Grimes (Southern California) and Poutasi Poutasi (Louisville).
Jaguars running back Isaiah Morris, who previously committed to UNLV, reopened his recruitment last Thursday.
