BASEBALL: Hingada sparks seventh-inning rally as Gorman tops Cimarron

Jorel Hingada’s RBI single with two outs in the top of the seventh inning sparked a four-run rally as Bishop Gorman’s baseball team escaped with a 5-2 win at Cimarron-Memorial and clinched at least a share of the Division I Sunset League title on Monday.

The Gaels trailed 2-1 entering the seventh, and Cimarron pitcher Noah Parker retired the first two batters of the seventh before a walk and an error opened the door for Gorman.

Hingada singled home pinch runner Christian Turner, and Beau Capanna scored on an errant throw to give Gorman a 3-2 lead.

Braxton Wehrle tripled home Hingada and then scored on Nick Hernandez’s single to make it 5-2.

Austin Wells went 3-for-4 with a run for Gorman. Matt Mitchell tossed a five-hitter and struck out five to get the win for the Gaels.

Derek Decolati was 2-for-3 for the Spartans.

Centennial 10, Durango 9 — At Centennial, Hayden Rosenkrantz was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to help the Bulldogs build a 10-1 fifth-inning lead and hold off the Trailblazers.

Jake Rogers and Bryce Rheault each went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Jaden Dudek was 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs for Centennial, which scored six runs in the fifth inning to increase its lead to 10-1.

Durango scored seven unearned runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh and had the potential tying run on base when the game ended.

Duke Pahukoa was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Tait Ludwick was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Durango. Charles Smith and Jason Salazar each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Trailblazers.

Faith Lutheran 13, Cheyenne 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Zack Trageton tossed a five-inning one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk as the Crusaders blanked the Desert Shields to clinch at least a share of the Division I-A Sunset League title.

Daniel Lasky was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Joshua Harmonay went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs for Faith Lutheran. Blake Giuliani was 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Sagan Gronauer was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Crusaders.

Palo Verde 3, Bonanza 0 — At Palo Verde, Ryan LaPolla and Tallon Thomason combined on a four-hitter as the Panthers blanked the Bengals.

LaPolla struck out six in 6 2/3 innings. Thomason came on with runners at first and second and two outs in the seventh and struck out the potential tying run to end the game.

Sam Powers and Cobi Fiechtner each went 2-for-3, and Jaxon Hammond was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Palo Verde.

Danny Ruiz was 2-for-3 for Bonanza.

Pahrump Valley 7, Mojave 3 — At Mojave, Aaron Fuentes’ two-run triple in the fourth inning broke a 2-2 tie and sparked the Trojans to a win over the Rattlers.

Winning pitcher Garret Lucas was 2-for-4 with a triple for Pahrump, and Willie Lucas and Adrian Barbier each went 2-for-3 for the Trojans.

Rease McClain had a double for Mojave.

Sierra Vista 3, Clark 2 — At Clark, Kaven Alferez went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Sierra Vista past Clark.

Blake Kaplan and Zachary Kreithe each added two hits for Sierra Vista, which scored all three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Matthew Thompson was 2-for-3 for Clark.

Spring Valley 10, Western 0 — At Spring Valley, Jack Sellinger tossed a two-hitter and struck out nine to lead the Grizzlies by the Warriors in five innings.

Bryce Bullock went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Spring Valley. Jaxson Otis was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Nick Rupp went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Grizzlies.

Desert Oasis 11, Legacy 1 — At Desert Oasis, Isaiah Raiano went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs to help the Diamondbacks defeat the Longhorns in five innings.

Kyle Fuentes was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for Desert Oasis, which scored seven runs in the second inning.

Anthony Lomeli and Austin Michals each went 1-for-2 with a double for Legacy.

Laughlin 13, Adelson School 2 — At Oxford Park, Coda Abatti tossed a six-inning four-hitter and struck out 13 to lead the Cougars by the Lions.

Abbati also went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double for Laughlin. Andrew Estes was 3-for-5, and Jose Calzeda was 3-for-4 with a double for Laughlin.

Ethan Finkelstein was 2-for-3 with a double.

Liberty baseball coach Rich Ebarb died Wednesday night, the school confirmed. Ebarb has a long coaching resume in Southern Nevada.
