BASEBALL: Centennial holds on to give Cerrone 400th career victory

Jake Rogers pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the seventh to help Centennial’s baseball team escape with a 7-6 victory over host Cimarron-Memorial on Wednesday.

Centennial carried a 7-3 lead into the seventh, but three hits, two errors and a walk allowed the Spartans to creep within one run with the bases loaded.

Rogers got a strikeout and a groundout to end the game and give head coach Charlie Cerrone his 400th career win at Centennial.

Garrett Holden was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Austin Krysczuk was 3-for-3 with an RBI for Centennial. Hayden Grant went 3-for-4 for the Bulldogs, who also got a home run from Kyle Horton.

Cimarron’s Alexander Marco was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Noah Loeffler went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs for the Spartans.

Palo Verde 13, Durango 10 — At Durango, Ryan Merino went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and five RBIs as the Panthers held off a late charge by the Trailblazers.

Mitchell Rathbun and Nolan Erickson each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Palo Verde. Wesley Cosby was 2-for-3, and Sam Powers homered for the Panthers, who led 10-3 after five innings.

Palo Verde clinched the No. 4 seed from the Sunset League with the victory.

Richard Mascarenas was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Colin Marracco went 2-for-5 with an RBI for Durango.

Desert Oasis 11, Bonanza 2 — At Bonanza, winning pitcher Brett Brocoff tossed five solid innings and was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs to help the Diamondbacks down the Bengals.

Brocoff allowed three hits and struck out five.

Isaiah Raiano went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and teammate Nic Lane finished 2-for-3 with a double for Desert Oasis, which scored in every inning but the third.

Torren Brozovich was 3-for-4 with a triple to pace Bonanza.

Shadow Ridge 6, Legacy 0 — At Legacy, Kyle Gaura went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, and Koby Milner was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lift the Mustangs over the Longhorns.

Bryan Trujillo was 2-for-3 with a run, and Andrew Snyder hit a triple for Shadow Ridge.

Hayden LeCates went 2-for-3 for Legacy, which was held to five hits by four Mustangs pitchers.

Bishop Gorman 15, Arbor View 5 — At Gorman, Austin Wells and Nick Israel each had two hits to lead a potent attack as the Gaels defeated the Aggies in six innings.

Jordan Sadovia drove in three runs for Gorman, which had 19 hits.

Nick Quintana had three hits and five RBIs for Arbor View.

Clark 11, Western 1 — At Western, Zachary Graham went 2-for-2 with two runs, and Matthew Thompson doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Chargers to a five-inning rout of the Warriors.

Clark locked up its first postseason berth since 2001 with the win and will be the No. 4 seed from the Sunset League when the Division I-A tournament begins next week.

James Carrillo had an RBI double for Western’s only run.

Spring Valley 16, Sierra Vista 0 — At Sierra Vista, Nick Rupp threw a three-hitter, and the Grizzlies scored 10 runs in the fourth en route to the five-inning win.

Rupp struck out eight with one walk. Jaxson Otis went 4-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBIs to lead the Spring Valley offense.

Antony Vazquez went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs, Jack Sellinger was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and Michael White had a home run and three RBIs for the Grizzlies.

Faith Lutheran 8, Pahrump Valley 0 — At Pahrump, Kanoa Flynn and Blake Giuliani combined on a two-hitter as the Crusaders blanked the Trojans.

Joshua Harmonay was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jake Koentopp went 2-for-4 for Faith Lutheran.

Cheyenne 14, Mojave 4 — At Cheyenne, Antonio Chavez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two stolen bases and five RBIs to lead the Desert Shields to a six-inning win over the Rattlers.

Christopher Rose and Rafael Ponce each went 2-for-3, and Titus Quintanilla doubled for Cheyenne, which led 8-2 after the second inning.

Angelo Hallenback and Quintanilla combined to throw a one-hitter for the Desert Shields.

Jacob Davis singled for Mojave.
