SOFTBALL: Sixth-inning rally leads Longhorns past Centennial

Legacy’s softball team scored five runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to rally for a 7-5 home win over Centennial.

Haley Pedersen started the Longhorns’ uprising with a leadoff double. With two outs, Clarissa Lona’s single to center scored Pedersen to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 5-3.

A walk to Kellie Nelson and a single by Alyssa Spencer loaded the bases, and Eliza Rodriguez singled to center to score Lona and make it 5-4.

Melissa Martinez drew a walk to tie the game, and consecutive RBI singles by Braelin Brockway and Pedersen gave Legacy a 7-5 lead.

Spencer was 3-for-3 for Legacy. Pedersen went 2-for-3 with the double and an RBI, and Brockway was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Legacy’s Amanda Sink allowed eight hits and six walks, but struck out 13.

Skyler Ball was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Angel Love went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for Centennial.

Arbor View 6, Palo Verde 5 — At Arbor View, Kellie Anderson’s smash past the shortstop with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning plated Breanne Henricksen with the winning run as the Aggies rallied by the Panthers.

Arbor View trailed 5-3 before scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game.

Henricksen started the seventh with a single and moved to third on Cierra Mikaelsen’s double. Two outs later, Henricksen scored on Anderson’s hard-hit ball.

Lileya Kebos went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Arbor View. Brittany Henricksen went 2-for-3, and Terren Vinson was 2-for-4 for Arbor View.

Grace Chavez went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, and Lauryn Barker was 3-for-4 with a double for Palo Verde.

Shadow Ridge 10, Desert Oasis 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Shelbi Denman spun a five-inning two-hitter and struck out six to guide the Mustangs by the Diamondbacks.

Caitlyn Covington was 3-for-3 with a double for Shadow Ridge. Shae Clements went 2-for-3 with a triple, and Alisha Schultz was 2-for-3 for the Mustangs.

Mission Oak (Calif.) 2, Rancho 1 — At Fresno, California, Mariah Mazon tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight to lead the Hawks by the Rams in a semifinal game of the Washington Union Invitational.

Tiare Lee homered for Rancho.

Lily Gutierrez and Samantha Pochop combined on a three-hitter for the Rams.

Heritage (Calif.) 5, Rancho 1 — At Fresno, California, Delia Scott tossed a four-hitter as the Patriots downed the Rams in the third-place game of the Washington Union Invitational.

Kylee Barrios was 3-for-4 for Heritage, which took advantage of three errors to score four runs in the second inning.

Mojave 22, Chaparral 12 — At Mojave, Natalie Paredes had four hits, including a double, four runs and four RBIs to help the Rattlers outslug the Cowboys in six innings.

Sarah Mercado added three hits, including a double, three runs and five RBIs, and Jessica Ortiz had three hits, including a double, four runs and an RBI for Mojave, which put the game out of reach with eight runs in the fifth inning.

Justine Villa was 2-for-2, and teammate Nayeli Rivas went 1-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs for Chaparral.

Virgin Valley 9-14, Parowan (Utah) 7-5 — At Parowan, Utah, Savannah Price went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, three runs and five RBIs in the nightcap as the Bulldogs swept the Rams.

Calee Clem was 3-for-4 with three runs, and Karla Correa went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the second game, which the Bulldogs won in four innings.

In the opener, Janella Fiso went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs to lead Virgin Valley. Clem was 2-for-4, and Price went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

White Pine 14-20, Lake Mead 1-1 — At Ely, the Bobcats swept a pair of five-inning games from the Eagles.

Cimarron-Memorial 12, Bonanza 0 — At Bonanza, the Spartans blanked the Bengals.
