BASEBALL: Eagles blank Cowboys, move into first in I-A Sunrise League

Steve Wagner tossed a three-hitter, and Boulder City’s baseball team shut out host Chaparral 6-0 on Friday to take over sole possession of first place in the Division I-A Sunrise League.

Wagner finished with five strikeouts and two walks, as he handed the Cowboys their first league loss.

Aaron Kehoe was 1-for-2 with a double, a run and two RBIs, and Mike Morelli went 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Eagles.

Rancho 4, Foothill 2 — At Foothill, Joey Walls’ two-run double in the top of the 11th inning scored Braulio Santiaguin and Zach Barnhart with the go-ahead runs as the Rams outlasted the Falcons.

Chayse Baker led off the top of the 11th with a double but was picked off of second. Santiaguin and Barnhart walked before Walls doubled into left-center field.

Rancho took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth before Foothill’s Jordan Fredericksen had a two-run single to give the Falcons the lead.

The Rams tied the game on an error in the top of the seventh.

Foothill had a chance to win it in the ninth with a runner at third and no outs, but Rancho reliever Cassius Shy got a popout, a shallow fly ball and a flyout to end the inning.

Shy tossed five innings of relief, allowing two hits and striking out two, to get the win.

Angel Walker and Anthony Guzman each went 2-for-5 for Rancho.

Silverado 10, Canyon Springs 0 — At Silverado, Chandler Whitehead and Ryan Pappas combined on a five-inning two-hitter as the Skyhawks blanked the Pioneers.

Whitehead allowed two hits and struck out six in four innings. Pappas struck out the side in the fifth.

Dax Fellows was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and James Skelly was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for Silverado.

Green Valley 17, Valley 1 — At Valley, Gavin Morley went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs and two RBIs as the Gators routed the Vikings in five innings.

A.J. Amelburu went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Carter Gehlken went 2-for-3 with four RBIs for Green Valley. Jake Leonard was 2-for-2 with a run an two RBIs for the Gators.

Tyler Henry and Ben Gephart combined on a two-hitter for Green Valley.

Geovanni Marrero-Perez-Negron had both of Valley’s hits.

Las Vegas 10, Eldorado 1 — At Las Vegas, Jason Herrera went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead the Wildcats past the Sundevils.

Hector Perez was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Diego Delgado knocked in two RBIs as well.

Delgado also went six innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win.

Bishop Gorman 5, Durango 3 — At Gorman, Marques Paige had two hits and an RBI as the Gaels held off the Trailblazers.

Myles Denson added two hits for Gorman. Winning pitcher Alex Tisminezky struck out 11 in six innings for Gorman.

Duke Pahukoa had two hits for Durango.

Bonanza 5, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Faith Lutheran, Byron Naftzger tossed a five-hitter to lead the Bengals by the Crusaders.

Naftzger allowed an unearned run and walked one. He struck out two.

Jay DeSoto went 2-for-4 with a double and a run for Bonanza, and teammate Lucas Rosenblatt was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Robby Schwartz went 2-for-3 with a run for Faith Lutheran.

Cimarron-Memorial 9, Clark 0 — At Cimarron, Noah Parker and Jacob Godman combined on a two-hitter as the Spartans blanked the Chargers.

Trevor Doyle went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Jaret Godman went 1-for-1 with a double, a run and two RBIs for Cimarron.

Sierra Vista 10, Tech 1 — At Sierra Vista, Ryan Carroll went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as the Mountain Lions routed the Roadrunners.

Blake Kaplan was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Sierra Vista, which received a triple from Kaven Alferez and doubles from DaVion Hollis and Dalton Twinning.

Jalen Birch had three hits and a double, while Trevor Kephart had two hits and a double for Tech.

Del Sol 9, Desert Pines 2 — At Del Sol, Zach Trujillo went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Dragons by the Jaguars.

Cordell Bowie was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Aaron Squires went 2-for-3 with one RBI for Del Sol, which led 5-0 after three innings.

Jorge Costa struck out six in 5 1/3 innings to get the win for the Dragons.

Juan Castaneda was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Desert Pines.

Virgin Valley 9, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Dillan Fuqua threw a four-hitter and struck out 11 to lead the Bulldogs by the Miners.

Layton Woods had three hits and an RBI for Virgin Valley, which led 6-0 after the first inning.

Sisco Solis-Escojeda had two hits for Sunrise Mountain.

Pahranagat Valley 7, Western 0 — At Western, Tabor Maxwell threw a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts as the Panthers blanked the Warriors.

Shawn Wadsworth went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Pahranagat Valley.

Lincoln County 7-9, Needles 2-1 — At Panaca, Mike Wood tossed a four-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks in the second game as the Lynx swept the Mustangs.

Wood also had three hits and two RBIs, and Nick Vincent had four hits and three RBIs for Lincoln County in the finale.

In the opener, Cody Thornock and Hunter Wilkin each had two hits to help the Lynx to the win.

Richard Keddy had two hits in the first game for Needles.

Mountain View 7-10, White Pine 4-28 — At Mountain View, Isiah Johnson homered, tripled and drove in two runs to lead the Saints past the Bobcats in Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Braedon Carmack tripled, and Josh Stanton doubled for the Saints in the opener. Josh Stanton struck out eight over five innings to pick up the win.

Colton Britton struck out 14 batters in a losing effort for the Bobcats.

A.J. Watts had two doubles, and Dekoda Barela and Kegan Hexem also doubled for the Bobcats in Game 2. Shamryn Brewster struck out five over 4 2/3 innings for the win.

Josh Stanton tripled twice, and Braedon Carmack doubled for the Saints.

The Meadows 11-14, Laughlin 7-4 — At The Meadows, the Mustangs scored nine runs with two outs in the first inning of Game 2 to sweep a doubleheader from the Cougars.

Round Mountain 20-11, Beaver Dam 6-6 — At Round Mountain, the Knights swept a doubleheader from the Diamondbacks.

Lake Mead 7-7, Agassi Prep 0-0 — At Agassi Prep, the Eagles won both games of a doubleheader by forfeit.
