TRACK: Harris, Barrel lead Basic boys to victory

Van Barrel and Frank Harris each won two individual events Wednesday to lead Basic’s boys track team to victory in a five-team meet at Basic.

Barrel won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.59 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 42.39. Harris took the 100 in 11.36 and the high jump by clearing 6 feet for the Wolves, who finished with 109 points.

Foothill was second with 78½ points, followed by Rancho (65½), Word of Life (9) and Laughlin (4).

Rancho’s William Jenkins won the discus (129-4) and the shot put (40-11).

Falcons win three-team meet

Elizabeth Richter won one event and finished second in another to help Foothill win a three-team meet against Rancho and host Basic.

Richter won the 800 in 2:36.53 and took second in the 1,600, trailing teammate Sarah Vanderhoven (5:47.83) by 0.55 seconds.

Foothill had 114 points. Basic was second with 77, and Rancho had 70.

Rancho’s Meyani Harris won the discus (91-4) and finished second in the shot put.
