RECRUITING: Desert Pines’ Randal Grimes commits to Southern California
April 16, 2016 - 2:25 pm
Desert Pines junior wide receiver Randal Grimes made an oral commitment to Southern California on Saturday, announcing his decision on Twitter.
Grimes’ commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 1. USC’s coaches cannot comment until that time.
The 6-foot-5-inch, 205-pound Grimes was the leading receiver for the Jaguars in 2015 after transferring from Sierra Vista. Grimes had 26 receptions for 548 yards and seven touchdowns, in addition to 124 yards and one score on 14 carries, and was a Division I-A first-team all-state selection.
Grimes, who was scheduled to attend Southern California’s spring game on Saturday, is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 9 player in the state for the class of 2017. He is a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com.
Grimes had 12 known scholarship offers, including UNLV. He chose the Trojans over schools such as Arizona State, Brigham Young, Colorado, Oregon State and Utah.
Grimes is the third player from Desert Pines in the class of 2017 to make an oral commitment, joining quarterback Marckell Grayson and running back Isaiah Morris, who each pledged to UNLV.
