BASEBALL: Fitzgerald’s walk-off hit lifts Gators over Bulldogs

Frankie Fitzgerald singled home Drake Maningo with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Green Valley a 3-2 home win over Centennial in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament on Thursday.

Maningo walked to lead off the inning and went to second on a one-out single by Matt Uran. A.J. Amelburu reached on an infield single to load the bases and set up Fitzgerald’s winning hit.

Gavin Morley had a solo homer, and Maningo added an RBI double in the second to tie the game. Amelburu went 2-for-4 for the Gators.

Matt Gilbertson allowed one hit in two scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

Centennial’s Frank Sessa was 2-for-3 with a double, and Kyle Horton went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Bulldogs, who scored twice in the top of the first.

Green Valley 6, Sierra Vista 1 — At Green Valley, Morley’s three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning led the Gators past the Mountain Lions.

Gilbertson was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Uran went 1-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI for Green Valley.

Dylan White was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Sierra Vista.

Desert Oasis 2, Rancho 1 — At Desert Oasis, Bryson Stott’s double to right-center with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Cole Schaefer from first base as the Diamondbacks nipped the Rams in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Stott was 2-for-4 double for Desert Oasis.

Ryley Toole and Jake Lucas combined on a six-hitter for the Diamondbacks.

Zach Barnhart was 3-for-3 with a double for Rancho.

Rancho 10, Durango 2 — At Durango, Barnhart was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as the Rams topped the Trailblazers in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Jimmy Gamboa was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Edarian Williams was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Rancho. Layton Walls threw 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Duke Pahukoa was 2-for-3 for Durango.

Palo Verde 4, Desert Oasis 3 — At Desert Oasis, the Panthers rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth to top the Diamondbacks in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Cobi Fiechtner was 2-for-2 with a triple, a run and two RBIs, and Mitchell Rathbun went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Palo Verde.

Brett Brocoff was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI for Desert Oasis, which led 2-1 heading into the fourth.

Palo Verde 17, Durango 2 — At Durango, J.D. Brooks was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs as the Panthers routed the Trailblazers in six innings in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Tanner Lewis and Nolan Erickson each drove in two runs for Palo Verde, which had 12 players with at least one hit.

Basic 9, Centennial 0 — At Basic, winning pitcher Trever Berg allowed four hits in five shutout innings as the Wolves beat the Bulldogs in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Garret Giles was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ryne Nelson finished 2-for-3 with two runs for Basic.

Bryce Rheault and Frank Sessa each had two hits for Centennial.

Basic 5, Sierra Vista 2 — At Basic, Roger Riley went 3-for-3 to help the Wolves down the Mountain Lions in the Lions Kick-Off Tournament.

Nick Thompson was 2-for-3, and Trent Bixby belted a solo home run for Basic.

Ethen Ryan tossed a nine-hitter for the Wolves.

Ryan Carroll was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, and White went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Sierra Vista.

Las Vegas 4, Shadow Ridge 0 — At Las Vegas, Trey Chauncey threw a one-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks to lead the Wildcats past the Mustangs in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Diego Delgado had a two-run single to highlight Las Vegas’ three-run fifth inning.

Trevin Reynolds doubled in the fourth inning for Shadow Ridge’s lone hit.

Spring Valley 2, Silverado 1 — At Spring Valley, Jonathen Bakken scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Grizzlies edged the Skyhawks in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Jack Sellinger was 2-for-3 and earned the win in relief for the Grizzlies, who got an RBI single from Jaxson Otis.

Silverado’s Michael Camburn had an RBI single in the fifth to tie the game.

Bonanza 6, Highland (Calif.) 3 — At Bonanza, Eric Shultz belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to lift the Bengals over the Bulldogs in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Shultz’s homer gave Bonanza a 4-3 lead.

Kyle Ming scattered seven hits to get the win.

Micah Higa, Levi Klump, Torren Brozovich, and Lucas Rosenblatt each supplied two hits for the Bengals.

Dwight Johnson went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple for Highland.

Liberty 5, Boulder City 3 — At Boulder City, Justin Lutes drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fifth to break a 3-3 tie, and the Patriots slipped past the Eagles.

Lutes was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Omar Ortiz also went 1-for-3 with a double, Jacob Klein went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Jayzen Ramirez was 2-for-4 for Liberty.

Zack Reed allowed three runs on three hits over four innings to pick up the win. He struck out six.

Michael Wong pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the save.

Steve Wagner went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Boulder City.

Coronado 7, Legacy 7 — At Legacy, the Cougars rallied for four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to force a tie with the Longhorns in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Kyle Hall went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Coronado. Jake McLean didn’t allow a hit in three scoreless innings for Coronado.

Hayden LeCates was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Legacy.

Eldorado 9, Desert Pines 6 — At Eldorado, Julio Rodarte was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs to help the Sundevils top the Jaguars in six innings in the Sundevil Invitational.

Jason DeMaria was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for Eldorado, which scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to erase a 4-0 deficit.

Trevor Lavenburg was 1-for-1 with a double and two runs for the Sundevils.

Eldorado 10, Clark 9 — At Eldorado, Rodarte got a strikeout to end the game and earn a save as the Sundevils edged the Chargers in five innings at the Sundevil Invitational.

Eldorado led 10-7 going to the top of the fifth, but allowed a double and two walks to start the inning. Rodarte came on and gave up a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 10-9. Catcher Ian Reber then gunned down a runner trying to steal, and Rodarte’s strikeout ended the game.

Lavenburg was 3-for-3 with three runs, and Isaac Villanueva went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Eldorado offense. Trevor Swain added two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Sundevils.

Thomas Campbell was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Clark, and teammate Guy Tannenbaum was 2-for-3.

Clark 12, Desert Pines 2 — At Eldorado, Garrett Woodford was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs as the Chargers routed the Jaguars in five innings in the Sundevil Invitational.

Miguel Carrillo was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Stefan McLin went 2-for-3 for Clark, which scored eight runs in the fifth inning to end the game by the mercy rule.

Raymond Minero was 2-for-2 with a double for Desert Pines.

Mojave 9, Chaparral 7 — At Chaparral, the Rattlers took advantage of nine errors and held on to down the Cowboys in the Sundevil Invitational.

Otto Hernandez earned a save after entering the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning and striking out a pair to escape damage. Hernandez also had two hits, and teammate Scott Wilson had an RBI single for Mojave.

Chaparral’s Robert O’Connor was 3-for-4, and Erick Villareal and Talon Greene each had two hits for the Cowboys.

Cimarron-Memorial 7, Snow Canyon (Utah) 2 — At St. George, Utah, Trevor Doyle was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs to lead the Spartans over the Warriors.

Noeh Loeffler was 2-for-4 with two runs, Jaret Godman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Alexander Marco had a solo home run for Cimarron.

Jacob Godman added two hits for the Spartans.

Richie Coughlin allowed a run on two hits in five innings to get the victory.

The Meadows 11, Greyhills Academy (Ariz.) 1 — At Mohave Valley, Arizona, Alex Agrawal had two hits and three RBIs, and the Mustangs scored nine runs in the first inning on their way to a five-inning rout of the Fightin’ Knights in the Route 66 Tournament.

Adam Martinez had two hits and two RBIs, and winning pitcher Christian Rimoldi added two hits for The Meadows.

Camp Verde (Ariz.) 5, The Meadows 3 — At Mohave Valley, Arizona, the Cowboys used a five-run third inning to down the Mustangs in five innings in the Route 66 Tournament.

The Meadows was held to one hit in the game.
