GIRLS BASKETBALL: Thrower, Pioneers hold off Wildcats

Alexia Thrower scored 19 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, to help Canyon Springs' girls basketball team to a 52-45 win over visiting Las Vegas in a Division I Northeast League game on Tuesday.

Dayonna Maddox and D'Licya Feaster each added eight points for Canyon Springs, which led 22-17 at halftime.

Kiona Jolley had 12 points for Las Vegas, and teammate Adrina Collins scored 10.

Rancho 51, Coronado 36 — At Rancho, Maureen Macato scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Rams by the Cougars.

Samantha Pochop added nine points and 12 rebounds, and Ashlynn McCall had seven points, four assists and seven steals for Rancho, which led 21-19 at halftime before outscoring Coronado 20-7 in the third quarter.

Talia Sapp led the Cougars with eight points.

Green Valley 64, Eldorado 46 — At Green Valley, Yamilei Rodriguez supplied 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals to power the Gators over the Sundevils.

Brooke Haney scored 19 points for Green Valley, which outscored Eldorado 35-21 in the second half.

Kiana Parkes led Eldorado with 20 points.

Centennial 71, Cimarron-Memorial 22 — At Centennial, Justice Ethridge poured in 20 points to lead the Bulldogs to an easy win over the Spartans.

Jayden Eggleston and Sarah Kruthaupt each scored 10 for Centennial, which led 19-3 after one quarter.

Niara Smith led Cimarron with six points.

Foothill 56, Basic 25 — At Foothill, Katey Roquemore scored 12 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Falcons by the Wolves.

Holly Wood added eight points for Foothill, which led 26-5 at halftime.

Ariel Hamilton had a game-high 14 points for the Wolves.

Liberty 62, Valley 14 — At Valley, Taylor Turney had 17 points, and Nancy Caballero scored 14 as the Patriots routed the Vikings.

London Pavlica added seven points for Liberty, which led 31-0 after one quarter.

Sydney Starks had five points to lead Valley.

Calvary Chapel 57, Beatty 54 — At Calvary Chapel, Malia Lee scored seven of her 30 points in the second overtime to lead the Lions by the Hornets.

Kaitlin Harris had 13 points for Calvary Chapel.

Alexia Gil led Beatty with 14 points. Maggie Cathcart added 12 points, and Ciara Garcia scored 10 for the Hornets.

Laughlin 41, The Meadows 32 — At Laughlin, Brittany Schelper tallied 12 points to help the Cougars top the Mustangs.

Teresa Chapa and Lori Morgan added eight points apiece for Laughlin, which led 22-12 at halftime.

Rachel Siegel had 13 points, and Marcella Peek scored 10 for The Meadows.

Needles 57, Lake Mead 21 — At Needles, Calif., Brenna Chavez scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Mustangs by the Eagles.

Jayne Antone added 11 points for Needles, which led 31-5 at halftime.

Jacea Tillman led Lake Mead with eight points.

Round Mountain 51, Adelson School 21 — At Round Mountain, Alyssa Hanks scored 26 points as the Knights routed the Lions.

Sandy Valley 36, Indian Springs 8 — At Sandy Valley, the Sidewinders held the Thunderbirds scoreless in the second quarter before cruising to an easy win.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
