BOYS BASKETBALL: Ruffin’s jumper lifts Durango to overtime win

Zyare Ruffin’s 15-foot jumper with two seconds left in overtime lifted Durango’s boys basketball team to a 56-55 win over Loyola (Calif.) in the Fairfax State Preview in Norwalk, Calif. on Saturday.

Durango carried a 46-39 lead into the fourth quarter before the Cubs rallied to force overtime on Henry Welsh’s basket that tied the game at 50-all.

The Cubs led three times in the overtime, grabbing the lead for the final time when Welsh made 1 of 2 free throws in the final minute.

The Trailblazers missed a go-ahead 3-pointer with less than 15 seconds to go, but got the ball back after a scramble for the rebound.

Welsh’s bid to win it for Loyola went in and out at the buzzer.

Chase Ruiz led Durango with 19 points. Ruffin had 14 points, and Michael Diggins scored 12 for the Trailblazers.

Josh Lavergne paced Loyola with 14 points.

Mountain View 75, Laughlin 40 — At Mountain View, Tyrell Brooks had 25 points and nine rebounds as the Saints ran by the Cougars.

Tevin Gray added 19 points, and Terrence Brooks had 14 points and five assists for Mountain View, which led 43-20 at the half. Bernard Williams grabbed 12 rebounds for the Saints.

Corey Anderson led Laughlin with 11 points.

The Meadows 85, Lincoln County 38 — At The Meadows, Jake Epstein scored all 29 of his points in the first half as the Mustangs routed the Lynx.

Max Hisatake added 25 points, and Asheesh Chopra scored 15 for The Meadows, which led 55-25 at the half.

Elijah Harr led Lincoln County with 11 points.

Pahranagat Valley 59, Round Mountain 38 — At Round Mountain, the Panthers downed the Knights.
