GIRLS BASKETBALL: Smith’s big night lifts Cimarron by Mountain Lions

Niara Smith had 30 points, nine steals and six assists Thursday to help Cimarron-Memorial's girls basketball team to a 53-44 victory over visiting Sierra Vista.

Amoura Whitney added 11 points, and Tasia Moore grabbed 12 rebounds for the Spartans, who led 22-12 after one quarter.

Shania Harper scored 17 points for the Mountain Lions.

Damonte Ranch 65, Green Valley 57 — At Reno, Morgan Waller poured in 27 points to lead the Mustangs by the Gators in the High Sierra Winter Challenge.

Brooke Haney scored all of her 19 points in the first half for Green Valley, which led 31-20 before Damonte Ranch used a 22-0 run to take control. Gwen Garcia added 12 points for the Gators.

North Valleys 38, Basic 21 — At Basic, Passion Burrell had 15 points to lead the Panthers by the Wolves.

North Valleys used a 14-4 third-quarter run to build a 30-17 lead and cruised to the win.

Tajza Eddings led Basic with six points.

Faith Lutheran 56, Douglas 27 — At Reno, Sam Caruth scored 24 points to lead the Crusaders in a rout of the Tigers in the High Sierra Winter Classic.

Madison Bocobo and Bryanna Neagle each scored nine points for Faith Lutheran, which never looked back after grabbing a 15-8 second-quarter lead.

Centennial 63, Chaparral 16 — At Centennial, Bailey Thomas hit five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 15 points to lead the Bulldogs past the Cowboys.

Justice Ethridge added 10 points for Centennial, which raced out to a 36-3 first-quarter lead.

Marcia Hawkins led Chaparral with four points.
