VEGAS INVITATIONAL: Hawkins leads Chaparral to semifinal win

Marcia Hawkins scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the second half Tuesday to lift Chaparral's girls basketball team to a 55-36 win over South El Monte (Calif.) in the semifinals of the Vegas Invitational at Mountain View.

Hawkins had 10 points in the fourth quarter for Chaparral, which will play Layton Christian (Utah) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the tournament final.

Alexis Vanstory added 10 points, and Jade Hazelton scored nine for the Cowboys, who opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 32-14 lead with 3:45 left in the third quarter.

Robyn Quintana, who finished with a team-high 16 points, hit a 12-foot jumper from the left wing to end the long scoring drought for the Eagles.

April Canchola had 10 points for South El Monte, which played without leading scorer Kimberly Urbina, who did not play because of a concussion.

Shadow Ridge 46, Mojave 43 — Camryn Bishop led three double-figure scorers with 16 points as the Mustangs outlasted the Rattlers.

Lauryn Calo had 12 points, and Aubree Nish scored 10 for Shadow Ridge, which led 27-16 at halftime.

Savannah Blanchard-Davis had 12 points for Mojave, and teammate Charleea Armstrong added 10 points. The Rattlers shot 7-for-19 from the free-throw line.

Pahranagat Valley 41, Bonanza 34 — Karley Whipple scored 13 points to help the Panthers top the Bengals.

Madalyn Taylor added 12 points for Pahranagat Valley, which outscored Bonanza 15-9 in the third quarter to take control.

Maysan Raleigh led Bonanza with 12 points.

Layton Christian (Utah) 44, Western 33 — Lily Henry scored 12 of her 19 points in the first half, and the Eagles grabbed a 25-14 halftime lead en route to a win over the Warriors.

Lovisa Humla added 12 points for Layton Christian.

Destiny Gonzalez had 16 points, and Adrianna Jones scored 11 for Western.

Marina (Calif.) 54, Clark 19 — Tricia Fukuzawa and Mary Dishoian each scored 16 points in the Vikings' rout of the Chargers.

Katie Nguyen added eight points for Marina, which led 28-7 at halftime.

Ariel Hamilton scored six points for Clark.

Chadwick (Calif.) 27, Mountain View 22 — Emily Shaw scored eight points to lead the Dolphins by the Saints in the Vegas Invitational.

Mia Shingles had nine points for Mountain View, which trailed 23-17 after three quarters.
