Simmons’ score secures win for Pirates

Moapa Valley's Sterling Simmons' 41-yard run with 6:45 to play on Friday gave the 10th-ranked Pirates the lead for good as they defeated visiting Legacy, 32-21.
Legacy led 21-20 before Simmons scored. R.J. Hubert added an 18-yard scoring run with 2:52 to play to seal the win for Moapa Valley (3-2).
Hubert rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries, also scoring on runs of 94 and 8 yards for the Pirates.
Nate Cox completed 8 of 15 passes for 138 yards, including a 2-yard TD pass to Sam Bond for Moapa Valley, which trailed 14-12 at the half.
Justin Whitehead ran for 117 yards on 11 carries, including scoring runs of 16 and 64 yards for Legacy (1-4). Naim Geeslin had a 25-yard TD run and rushed for 102 yards on 17 carries for the Longhorns.
