SMALL-SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Higbee powers Panthers past Sidewinders

Brook Higbee went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Pahranagat Valley’s softball team scored 10 runs in the first inning Thursday to cruise past Sandy Valley, 15-0 in five innings in the Division IV Southern League tournament in Alamo.
Madalyn Taylor homered for the Panthers (14-6), who will host Indian Springs (19-5) in the winners’ bracket final at noon Friday.
Kaitlyn Davis tossed a one-hitter and struck out seven for Pahranagat Valley.
Sandy Valley (6-10-1) will meet Tonopah (4-5) in an elimination game at 2 p.m. Friday.
Indian Springs 15, Tonopah 5 — Kayla Noyes homered to lead the Thunderbirds by the Muckers in five innings in the other first-round game.
Hannah Thormahlen tossed a five-hitter for Indian Springs.
