June 21, 2015 - 10:19 pm
Offensive lineman Donovan Outlaw, who will be a senior at Coronado High School next season, was on his way to the airport to fly to Reno on Sunday and participate in a UNR football camp.
Then he saw a billboard with UNLV first-year coach Tony Sanchez on it declaring a “new era.”
“I took it as a sign, and I decided to commit,” Outlaw said.
It didn’t hurt the flight to Reno got canceled, but he was going to be a Rebel anyway, saying he was impressed by a recent visit to campus.
“The offensive line coach, (John) Garrison and Sanchez are great coaches, and I love what they’re doing,” Outlaw said. “It’s a great fit for me.”
Outlaw (6 feet 4 inches, 290 pounds) is the fourth member of UNLV’s 2016 recruiting class under Sanchez. Three of those players are from the Las Vegas Valley.
Outlaw said Weber State also offered him a scholarship, and he believed an offer was coming from UNR had he made the trip.
