Mojave outlasts Legacy for Longhorn Invitational volleyball crown

Tournament Most Valuable Player Jason Zambrano dished out 28 assists, and Jordan Glenn added seven kills and three blocks to lift Mojave’s boys volleyball team to a 25-27, 27-25, 16-14 win over host Legacy in the championship match of the Longhorn Invitational on Saturday.
Absalon Williams had 10 kills, and Clayton Fontano added six kills and eight digs for the Rattlers.
Anthony Delgado had 36 assists, seven digs and two blocks, and Zaire Franklin had 17 kills and eight digs to lead the Longhorns. Anthony Madden supplied eight kills, 13 digs and three aces, and Omari Wheeler had six kills and five blocks for Legacy.
Mojave was a 17-25, 25-20, 15-5 winner over Valley in a quarterfinal and advanced to the final with a 25-20, 25-19 win over Arbor View in a semifinal.
Legacy was a 25-19, 25-18 winner over Sierra Vista in a quarterfinal and rallied past Las Vegas, 21-25, 25-20, 17-15 in the semifinals.
Arbor View captured the third-place match, downing Las Vegas, 25-23, 22-25, 17-15.
Fontano joined Zambrano on the all-tournament team for Mojave. Also named to the team were: Legacy’s Wheeler, Franklin and Delgado, Valley’s Marty Heavey, Arbor View’s Sam Buckels and Las Vegas’ Brandon Kampshoff.
