BASEBALL: Spartans’ rally falls just short in title game of Snow Canyon tourney

Cimarron-Memorial’s baseball team had its rally come up short in a 3-2 loss to Snow Canyon (Utah) in the championship game of the Snow Canyon Invitational in St. George, Utah.

The Warriors scored twice in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead and carried a 3-1 lead into the seventh before Cimarron’s Niko Decolati homered. A two-out walk put the tying run on base, but the Spartans got no closer.

Decolati and Tyler Giovinco each went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Cimarron.

Cimarron-Memorial 12, Bountiful (Utah) 1 — At St. George, Utah, Tyler Baca went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs as the Spartans routed Bountiful in five innings in the Snow Canyon Classic.

Decolati was 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs, and Noah Given went 2-for-2 with an RBI for Cimarron, which broke open the game with a nine-run second inning.

Mojave 9, Pahrump Valley 0 — At Eldorado, Rease McClain threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead the Rattlers past the Trojans in the championship game of the Sundevil Invitational.

Chae Anderson was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for Mojave.

Mojave 6, Eldorado 4 — At Eldorado, Ryan lawrence went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs as the Rattlers beat the Sundevils in a semifinal in the Sundevil Invitational.

Pahrump Valley 10, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Tyler Greene tossed a five-inning three-hitter to lead the Trojans by the Pioneers in the Sundevil Invitational.

Parker Hart and Josh Mortensen each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Pahrump.

Eldorado 14, Valley 2 — At Eldorado, Cris Andrade tossed a five-inning four-hitter and went 2-for-3 with two runs as the Sundevils routed the Vikings in the Sundevil Invitational.

Joseph Torres was 2-for-2 with a double and a run for Eldorado. Trevor Swain went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Josh Brown was 2-for-4 with a run for the Sundevils.

Tech 7, Desert Pines 5 — At Desert Pines, Christian Dominguez was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to help the Roadrunners hold off the Jaguars in six innings in the Sundevil Invitational.

Alexis Acosta allowed five hits and one earned run and struck out 11 for Tech, which led 7-1 after five innings.

Valley 8, Desert Pines 4 — At Desert Pines, Isaiah Cardenas had three hits and an RBI to help the Vikings top the Jaguars in six innings in the Sundevil Invitational.

David Trotta and Alonso Osorio-Kalawe combined on a three-hitter for Valley.

Chaparral 6, Canyon Springs 4 — At Eldorado, Tyler Crone tossed a six-hitter and struck out nine to lead the Cowboys past the Pioneers in the Sundevil Invitational.

Erick Villareal was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Chaparral.
