Centennial’s Braxton sets three meet records at Skyhawk Invitational

Dajour Braxton set three individual meet records and was a part of a winning relay team to help Centennial’s boys track team win the Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday at Silverado.

Braxton set meet records in the 800-meter run (1 minute, 55.7 seconds), 1,600 (4:13.93) and 3,200 (9:40.28). He also ran a leg on the Bulldogs’ 3,200-meter relay team that finished first in 8:11.26.

The Bulldogs won the 17-team meet with 145½ points. Green Valley was second with 137, while Coronado and Palo Verde tied for third with 56½.

Green Valley’s Ian Mack swept the individual sprints, winning the 100 in 10.65, the 200 in 22.36 and the 400 in a meet-record time of 48.82. He also was a member of the Gators’ winning 800 relay team (1:28.82).

The Gators’ Brady Williams had a winning mark of 159 feet, 5 inches in the discus and took the shot put with an effort of 53-9.

Canyon Springs’ Bradley Alexander captured both hurdle events, winning the 110 in 14.74 and the 300 in 39.3.

Legacy’s James Smith won both the long jump (21-11¼) and the triple jump (44-3¾).

In the girls meet, Alexis Gourrier won three individual events and was a part of a 3,200 relay team that won in a meet-record time of 9:37.01 to help Centennial breeze to the team title.

Gourrier took the 800 in 2:21.57, the 1,600 in 5:09.85 and the 3,200 in 11:38.59.

Centennial had a team score of 170 to top a 15-team field. Green Valley was second at 111, followed by Silverado with 83½.

Sierra Vista’s Sydney Land won both the 200 (26.35) and 400 (58.03).
