VOLLEYBALL: Durkin returns from injury to serve Bulldogs by Legacy

Centennial’s Tanner Durkin served an ace to close out a 23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 26-24, 16-14 victory over visiting Legacy on Monday.

Durkin was hit in the face with the ball earlier in the fifth set and left the match with a bloody nose before returning to serve the winning point.

Durkin finished with 23 kills and one ace. Terrell Hicks had 10 kills, and Grant Nelson had 53 assists for the Bulldogs.

Zaire Franklin had 20 kills to lead the Longhorns. Anthony Madden had 19 kills, and Anthony Delgado had 48 assists for Legacy.

Palo Verde 3, Durango 2 — At Palo Verde, Michael Simister had 17 kills to help the Panthers top the Trailblazers, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-11.

Cole Wilson added 38 assists and 11 digs for Palo Verde, and Parker Nelson recorded 11 kills and two blocks for the Panthers.

Jaylen Clark led Durango with 11 kills, 13 digs and two blocks. Michael Diggins had 10 kills and five blocks, and teammate Andre Shabazz added 30 assists, six digs and three blocks.

Liberty 3, Silverado 2 — At Liberty, Ryan Taggert had 19 kills to lead the Patriots past the Skyhawks, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-10.

Ian Tia had 11 kills and three blocks for Liberty. Brandon Baliza had seven kills, two aces and four blocks, and teammate Brycen Ivester had 43 assists for the Patriots.

Taz Goon had 11 kills, nine digs and one block to lead the Skyhawks. Silverado’s Grant Zitzman had three kills, three aces and one block, and Cody Steckel had six kills, 25 assists and seven digs.

Shadow Ridge 3, Bishop Gorman 1 — At Gorman, Quinn Peterson had 17 kills and nine digs as the Mustangs beat the Gaels, 25-14, 25-22, 18-25, 31-29.

N.J. Makaiwi had 39 assists and 21 digs, and teammate Cody Heathcock added nine kills and five digs for Shadow Ridge. A.J. Makaiwi had 40 digs for the Mustangs.

Charlie Polnow had 17 kills, seven digs and three aces, and Jacob Taylor added 12 kills, eight digs and three blocks for Gorman, which got 35 assists from Josh Holland.

Basic 3, Cheyenne 1 — At Basic, Brad McDonald had 12 kills to lead the Wolves past the Desert Shields, 15-25, 25-9, 25-17, 25-17.

Bo Peterson had 18 digs, and teammate Jeremy Shafer had four blocks for Basic.

Valley 3, Canyon Springs 0 — At Valley, Alex Sandoval had 23 assists and eight digs to lead the Vikings over the Pioneers, 25-11, 25-3, 25-12.

Marty Heavey had nine kills, and Jared Marchello added eight kills for Valley.

Bryan Castro and Gaspar Gonzalez each had two kills for Canyon Springs.

Desert Oasis 3, Desert Pines 0 — At Desert Pines, Ailey Asulin had 13 assists as the Diamondbacks swept the Jaguars, 25-17, 25-18, 25-11.

Saunoa Afoa had six kills, and Dylan Sadama added two kills and one block for Desert Oasis.

Estanislao Lansangan led Desert Pines with four kills and six blocks. DeAngelo Dixon had five kills, and teammate Gerardo Corral dished out 10 assists for the Jaguars.

Chaparral 3, Cimarron-Memorial 1 — At Cimarron, the Cowboys defeated the Spartans, 25-27, 25-23, 25-13, 25-12.
