GOLF: Penor, Lung lead Cougars to Southeast win

Sammy Penor and Ashley Lung each shot 4-over-par 76 at Legacy on Monday to help Coronado’s girls golf team win a Southeast League match.

The Cougars had a team score of 311. Green Valley took second with 361, followed by Foothill at 398 and Rancho at 450.

Green Valley’s Mercedes Khumnark also shot 76 to share medalist honors.

Coronado’s Natalie Yamamoto added a 78, and teammate Isabella Martinez shot 81.

Gaels win Southwest League match

At Bear’s Best, Danielle Oberlander shot a 14-over 85 to lead Bishop Gorman to victory in a Southwest League match.

The Gaels had four of the top five golfers and finished with a team score of 351. Shadow Ridge was second at 369, and Palo Verde took third at 408.

Shadow Ridge’s Allison Weiderman was the medalist with a 78.

Kara Moore added an 88 for Gorman, and teammates Sabrina Schnur and Alexis Silvis each shot 89.

Oertel, Bengals win Northwest match

At Canyon Gate, Rebecca Oertel shot 5-over-par 77 to lead Bonanza to a narrow victory in a Northwest League match.

The Bengals shot 383 to nip Desert Oasis (384) and Centennial (385).

Desert Oasis’ Ashley Malone was second individually at 79. Centennial’s Kianna Arizmendi and Bonanza’s Samantha Torres each shot 88.
