Johnson, Diamondbacks top Bengals for first win

Desert Oasis’ Tyeree Johnson racked up 146 yards and scored three times to lead the Diamondbacks to a 45-14 home victory over Bonanza on Friday for their first win of the season.

Desert Oasis (1-5, 1-1 Northwest) scored three touchdowns in the final five minutes of the first quarter, and four Bengal turnovers were turned into points before the intermission.

A bad snap on a punt deep in Bengal territory set up a 1-yard plunge from Qwade Huff at 2:04 of the first, and after Bonanza fumbled on the first play of their ensuing possession, Johnson added a second score from a yard out.

A fumbled punt set up a 33-yard field goal from Paul Sy at 8:08 of the second, and another special teams mistake from the Bengals led to a defensive score from Jalen Jonah.

Both teams scored twice in the second half as Wyatt Allison found ByJon Large for scores in each of the final two quarters for Bonanza. Desert Oasis got long touchdown runs from Johnson (41 yards) and Huff (67 yards) to cap their scoring.

Huff finished with 87 rushing yards on four attempts for the winners, and teammate Austin Exedine caught three passes for 31 yards. Zion Jones had two interceptions.

Bonanza (0-7, 0-2) got 87 passing yards from Allison including the two scores to Large, who also had 52 rushing yards.
