BASEBALL: Cougars rally in third, beat No. 2 Basic

Coronado’s baseball team rallied for three runs in the top of the third and held on for a 3-1 road win over second-ranked Basic on Thursday.

Michael Warning threw a five-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk to get the win.

Basic’s run came in the seventh inning. The Wolves had a runner at second when Warning got a fly ball to end the game.

Derek Clelan started the third-inning rally with a leadoff double, and scored on an RBI single by Tanner Bellamy to break a scoreless tie.

Sterling Saltz added a two-run triple later in the inning for the Cougars.

Basic’s Tanner Roundy was 2-for-3 with a double, and teammate Skyler Mahoney went 2-for-4.

Mojave 8, Clark 0 — At Clark, Alex Smith threw a one-hitter and struck out 12 to lift the Rattlers by the Chargers.

Tyson Goodrich and and Cory Tobin were both 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs for Mojave.

Fernando Reza had the lone Clark hit in the first inning.

Liberty 12, Eldorado 0 — At Liberty, Bailey Daguio and Joey Kulla combined to toss a no-hitter to lead the Patriots by the Sundevils in five innings.

Dagiuo struck out eight in three innings to get the win.

Jesse Keiser was 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs, and Josh McCollum supplied two hits and three RBIs for Liberty, which got two hits from Jay Martz.

Centennial 4, Bonanza 2 — At Centennial, Jake Portaro’s two-run homer in the fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Bulldogs the win over the Bengals.

Portaro also had a solo homer in the third inning for Centennial.

Cooper Powell allowed no earned runs on three hits to get the win. Powell finished with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Chris Dunn doubled twice and scored a run, and teammate Justin Nakata supplied an RBI single for Bonanza.

Pahrump Valley 9, Western 2 — At Western, Dylan Ault was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Cody Kovatch was 3-for-4 with three runs to help the Trojans defeat the Warriors.

Josh Mortensen had a triple and struck out five in two innings of relief for Pahrump. Devin Rily allowed one run in five innings to earn the win and added a double.

Richard Green also had a double for the Trojans.

Edgar Reyes was 2-for-3 with a solo home run for Western and struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings.

Cimarron-Memorial 13, Legacy 3 — At Legacy, Micquel Robinson was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, five RBIs and three runs to lead the Spartans to a six-inning win over the Longhorns.

Trevor Lippard was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run, and Logan Bottrell went 2-for-4 with two runs for Cimarron, which got two doubles from Ryan McHale.

Hayden LeCates went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Legacy.

Jamie Yanchisin allowed two runs on four hits in five innings to get the win. Yanchisin struck out seven and walked two.

Desert Pines 9, Valley 6 — At Desert Pines, Iquan Corsey tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and provided three doubles, two runs and two stolen bases to propel the Jaguars past the Vikings.

Vasifauna Hansell was 3-for-4 with a double, and Trevor Nofoa added two hits for Desert Pines.

Jacob Cruz had a single and a run to lead Valley.

Foothill 9, Del Sol 1 — At Foothill, Austin Wilson was 3-for-3 with an RBI to help the Falcons defeat the Dragons.

Nick Cardinale was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for Foothill, and Ryan Moyes and Alec Mathis each scored two runs for the Falcons.

Nick Trujillo went 2-for-3 with a run for Del Sol.

Faith Lutheran 12, Cheyenne 1 — At Cheyenne, Jordan Dreibelbis, Erich Uelmen and Kyle Poser combined on a three-hitter to lead the Crusaders to a five-inning victory over the Desert Shields.

Greg Sylvester had two hits and drove in four runs, and Zach Trageton and Chad Jones each supplied three hits for Faith Lutheran, which got two hits and two runs from Thomas Beatty.

Terry Oechslin provided an RBI single for Cheyenne.

Shadow Ridge 2, Las Vegas 1 — At Shadow Ridge, Jordan Hand scored on a double steal in the bottom of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie and give the Mustangs the win over the Wildcats.

Tyler Burton allowed an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings to get the win. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out four.

He left after a walk and hit batter put the go-ahead run on base with two outs in the seventh. Chris Opolka came on to get the only batter he faced to ground out to get the save.

Burton had an RBI double in the second to put the Mustangs on top early.

Jake Wilson was 2-for-3 with a double and a run for Shadow Ridge.

Diego Delgado was 2-for-3 for Las Vegas.

Bishop Gorman 9, Desert Oasis 3 — At Desert Oasis, Bronson Bowe went 3-for-3 with two doubles to help the Gaels beat the Diamondbacks.

Cadyn Grenier was 3-for-4, and Andrew Newson went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Gorman. Cole Krzmarzick added a single and a double for the Gaels, who scored five runs in the top of the first.

Bryson Stott went 3-for-4 with a triple for Desert Oasis.

The Meadows 24-17, Calvary Chapel 0-2 — At The Meadows, Austin Neal had four hits and four RBIs in the opener and three hits and three RBIs in the nightcap as the Mustangs swept a pair of five-inning games from the Lions.

In the first game, Nabeel Afzal tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out six. He also had three hits and three RBIs, and teammate Brian Fridman had four hits.

Jacob Gleason had three hits, and Afzal added two hits in the second game.

Needles 16-17, Mountain View 1-1 — At Needles, Jason Neverov was 3-for-5 with seven RBIs in the opener, and the Mustangs rolled to the doubleheader sweep.

Aidan Shaver went 4-for-7 with four RBIs in the doubleheader, and threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in the nightcap.

William Dunn threw a two-hitter with six strikeouts in the opener.

Liberty baseball coach Rich Ebarb died Wednesday night, the school confirmed. Ebarb has a long coaching resume in Southern Nevada.
