Lauten, Lucas help Coronado girls win Ron Resler Invitational

Taylor Lauten and Logan Lucas each won one individual event and ran a leg on the winning 3,200-meter relay team Friday to help Coronado’s girls track team to a narrow win in the Ron Resler Invitational in Boulder City.

Lauten won the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 33.03 seconds, and Lucas took the 3,200 in 11:53.61. The duo helped the Cougars win the 3,200 relay with a time of 10:00.79.

And Coronado needed every win, finishing with 99½ points to lead the 21-team field. Green Valley was second with 99, followed by Faith Lutheran with 80½.

Faith Lutheran’s Cayla Nikodemus and Rancho’s Miracle Blalark each won two individual events.

Nikodemus took the 100 in 12.67 and the long jump with an effort of 17-10. Nikodemus also ran a leg on the Crusaders’ victorious 1,600 relay team.

Blalark swept the throws with an effort of 125-11 in the discus and 37-4½ in the shot put.

In the boys meet, Gary Abdella finished first in the shot put (51-0½) and took third in the discus (149-0) to help Desert Oasis claim the team trophy.

The Diamondbacks led the 18-team field with 75 points. Green Valley was second with 66. Faith Lutheran had 58 points to place third with and Chaparral (56), Basic (55) and Valley (55) all close behind.

Faith Lutheran’s Mark Rubalcaba won two individual events, claiming both the long jump (23-6¼) and the triple jump (46-2).
