BASEBALL: Grizzlies rally in fifth to top Panthers

Spring Valley’s baseball team scored three runs in the fifth inning on Thursday to rally for a 4-3 road win over Palo Verde.

Winning pitcher Zane Drachler was 2-for-3 and hit the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the fifth. Cody Watkins went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Taylor Robison was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Grizzlies.

J.D. Brooks was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead Palo Verde, and Bradley Lewis went 2-for-4 with a double for the Panthers.

Rancho 11, Silverado 3 — At Rancho, Andrew Wieger spun a five-hitter to help the Rams to a win over the Skyhawks.

Zach Barnhart was 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBIs, and Bryce Harrell went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Rancho, which got a solo homer from Jose Verdugo. Dylan Pletsch and Cody Suarez each had three hits for the Rams.

Dillon Johnson supplied two hits, and Vincent Taormina doubled to lead Silverado.

Shadow Ridge 10, Durango 3 — At Shadow Ridge, Jordan Hand went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and an RBI, and the Mustangs used an eight-run fourth inning to top the Trailblazers.

Jordan Johnson was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Francisco Robles was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Shadow Ridge.

Durango’s Artie Gallegos was 2-for-4 with a double, and John Wright went 2-for-3 with a double for the Trailblazers.

Las Vegas 14, Canyon Springs 11 — At Canyon Springs, the Wildcats jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings and outslugged the Pioneers.

Hector Perez had a two-run triple and a two-run single for Las Vegas.

Joe Jackson was 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park homer and two runs, and Isiah Carter had two hits and scored three runs to lead Canyon Springs.

Chaparral 8, Moapa Valley 1 — At Chaparral, Tommy Crone threw four scoreless innings of relief to get the win and went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI to lead the Cowboys over the Pirates.

Crone allowed one hit and struck out eight with no walks. He combined with Chad Clark on a two-hitter.

Jose Ortiz went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, and Luis Giro was 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Chaparral.

Green Valley 14, Valley 0 — At Valley, Keola Paragas went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBIs to lead the Gators over the Vikings in five innings.

Winning pitcher Troy Cropper tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and also went 3-for-4. Keaton Smith was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double, and Jarrett Perns went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple for Green Valley.

Jarod Penniman also hit a solo home run for the Gators.

Foothill 7, Boulder City 3 — At Boulder City, Zach Avery was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Collin Dobrolecki was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI to lead the Falcons over the Eagles.

Spencer Throgmorton allowed three runs on four hits in five innings to get the win.

Virgin Valley 19, Sunrise Mountain 7 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Bulldogs scored 16 runs in the fifth inning to top the Miners.

Mountain View 15-14, Laughlin 5-4 — At Mountain View, Noah Van Kempen tossed a three-hitter and struck out 10 in the nightcap as the Saints swept a pair of five-inning games from the Cougars.

Dylan Duggan had three hits and three RBIs in the second game for Mountain View.

In the opener, Ivaylo Iliev fired a three-hitter to guide the Saints to the win. Josh Stanton had two hits and two RBIs for Mountain View.
