SOFTBALL: Oxford’s infield single sends Panthers past Rams

Lauren Oxford’s infield single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning led to two runs, and Palo Verde’s softball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Rancho on Friday in a matchup of top-three teams.

Melissa Lacro and Rachael Turner opened the seventh with singles to put runners on first and second for the No. 2 Panthers. After a groundout by Brooke Stover, Breanna Beatty’s groundout moved the runners to second and third.

Oxford’s dribbler scored Lacro from third, and a fielding error on the play allowed the winning run to score.

Turner and Kiley Harrison each went 2-for-4 for Palo Verde. Kelsea Sweeney went the distance, allowing seven hits while striking out six.

Brandy Marlett went 3-for-4, and Jacey Kelley was 2-for-4 for the third-ranked Rams. Marlett also fanned six in a losing effort.

Sierra Vista 15, Bonanza 5 – At Bonanza, Adrianna Somerville had a double and a triple, and Brandee Ford went 3-for-5 with four RBIs as the Mountain Lions took advantage of 10 errors by the Bengals to win in six innings.

Kira Felise picked up the win despite the seven errors committed by Sierra Vista’s defense.

Brianna Hernandez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Ashlee McKenna added a double to lead Bonanza.

Cimarron-Memorial 13, Durango 7 — At Cimarron, Rosie Del Rosario went 3-for-3 to help the Spartans beat the Trailblazers.

Rheanna Esparza went 2-for-2 with a double for Cimarron, which scored eight runs in the first inning to take control.

Cheyanne Haas hit a three-run homer in the second inning for Durango.

Boulder City 12, Del Sol 0 — At Boulder City, Charlene Masterson pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs to power the Eagles past the Dragons.

Masterson walked one Del Sol batter in the first inning to prevent a perfect game.

Victoria Ford added a double for Boulder City, which scored 10 runs in the first inning.

Shadow Ridge 18, Mojave 1 – At Mojave, Kate Dennis went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run, and Kenzie Kurth also hit a solo homer while going 2-for-3 as the Mustangs routed the Rattlers in five innings.

Isabella Scarale doubled and drove in two runs, and Eliana Giribaldi also doubled for Shadow Ridge. Scarale allowed one run on two hits while striking out five to earn the win.

Danette Daguiar doubled and scored the Rattlers’ only run of the game.

Desert Oasis 15, Eldorado 13 — At Eldorado, Meagan Anders went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI to lead the Diamondbacks past the Sundevils.

Keelyn Pacheco went 3-for-4 with a double for Eldorado, which fell short with a late rally.

Pahrump Valley 23, Desert Pines 2 – At Desert Pines, the Trojans plated 13 runs in the first inning en route to a four-inning victory over the Jaguars.

Deliah Polnau led the offensive charge for Pahrump Valley with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Jordan Egan had two doubles, and Lahela Kaiwi and Samantha Altiero each doubled for the Trojans.

Kaiwi also was the winning pitching, allowing only two runs on three hits.

Regina Villeda tripled and drove in both runs for the Jaguars.

Pahranagat Valley 8, Virgin Valley 6 — At Mesquite, Madison Harris doubled in two runs as part of a five-run seventh inning, and the Panthers rallied to beat the Bulldogs.

Brook Higbee and Traci Strong each had two hits, and winning pitcher Kennedy Huntsman added a triple for Pahranagat Valley.

Janella Fiso had a two-run home run for Virgin Valley.

Cheyenne 24, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, Brittny Phillips went 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs to help the Desert Shields top the Miners in five innings.

Sabrina Stafford went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Jaylyn Ridgeway was 3-for-5 with an RBI for Cheyenne, which scored 11 runs in the second inning.

Jonnette Paddy added two triples, and Destiny Gain had a double and a triple for the Desert Shields. Alyssa Fata allowed three hits to earn the victory.

Lincoln County 22-22, The Meadows 0-5 — At Panaca, Easton Tingey hit two home runs, and Aspen Wilkin and Josie Burgess combined on a five-inning no-hitter in the opener to help the Lynx sweep the Mustangs.

Kaylee Teel doubled, homered and drove in three runs, and Wilkin and Jaycee Wadsworth each homered for Lincoln County in the first game.

Chelsea Lloyd struck out nine over four innings and also homered in the nightcap for the Lynx.

Lincoln County’s Tanji Tibbits hit a home run and drove in two runs, and teammate Chesnee Harding added two doubles and a home run in the second game.

Jacqui Adams drove in a run in the second game for the Mustangs.

Agassi Prep 24, Lake Mead 8 — At Agassi Prep, the Stars defeated the Eagles for their first win in program history.

Lovely Glinton tripled for Agassi Prep.

Needles 17-16, Calvary Chapel 0-1 — At Calvary Chapel, Brenna Chavez homered in the opener, and Demi Limon tossed a two-hitter in the nightcap to lift the Mustangs to a sweep of the Lions.

Limon went 4-for-4, and Allissa Rentas had two doubles for Needles in the first game.

Monica Mejorada had an RBI double in the second game to produce Calvary Chapel’s lone run.
