BOYS BASKETBALL: Vikings edge Wildcats, remain tied for first

Spencer Mathis had 23 points and 11 rebounds Friday to help Valley’s boys basketball team hold off visiting Las Vegas, 66-62.

Cameron Burton added 16 points for the Vikings, who led 39-20 at halftime before withstanding a second-half rally by Las Vegas.

The Wildcats got 24 points from Patrick Savoy and 23 points from Re’Kwon Smith.

Palo Verde 61, Shadow Ridge 57 — At Shadow Ridge, Grant Dressler scored 16 points, and the Panthers held on to top the Mustangs.

Ja Morgan added 13 points for Palo Verde, which led 41-21 at the half.

Preston Echols had 21 points, and teammate Serph Decker added 13 points for Shadow Ridge, which got 11 points from Cameren Berube.

Silverado 63, Rancho 60 — At Silverado, Joe Baldi had 39 points, including three points in overtime, as the Skyhawks outlasted the Rams.

Baldi’s 3-pointer in the final minute forced overtime.

Jason Matthew added 10 points for Silverado.

Jaylin Gaston scored 15 points for Rancho. David McKeever added 12 points, and Kenneth Smith scored 10 for the Rams.

Canyon Springs 84, Green Valley 74 — At Green Valley, Jordan Davis and Gerad Davis each scored 23 points to lead the Pioneers past the Gators.

Chris Nelson added 21 points for Canyon Springs, which used a 27-11 third-quarter run to take control.

Tyrell Crosby had 22 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Gators. Alexander Hicks had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Troy Cropper added 14 points and 13 rebounds for Green Valley.

Foothill 89, Liberty 59 — At Liberty, Austin Starr scored 22 points as the Falcons routed the Patriots.

Jalen Shepard added 15 points for Foothill, which got 10 points apiece from Matt Rapp, Torrance Littles and Jontee Thomas.

Elijah Graves led Liberty with 22 points, and teammate Ed O’Bannon added 10 points.

Coronado 66, Basic 56 — At Coronado, Austin Morgan logged 23 points and six assists to lead the Cougars past the Wolves.

Eddie Austin added 15 points for Coronado, and teammate Travis Boman had seven points and eight rebounds.

Jared Meacham led Basic with 14 points. Shelldan Slayton added 13 points, and Chandler Kamai scored 10 for the Wolves.

Eldorado 76, Del Sol 55 — At Del Sol, Jayveon Brown had 18 points, and the Sundevils overcame a slow start to down the Dragons.

Darrion Daniels and D’Quan Crockett each had 15 points, and Shane Barnes added 10 points for Eldorado, which trailed 18-8 after one quarter before outscoring Del Sol 56-20 in the middle quarters.

Brian Greer led the Dragons with 21 points.

Agassi Prep 70, Calvary Chapel 30 — At Agassi Prep, Deishaun Booker had 36 points and eight assists as the Stars routed the Lions.

Wa’T Manor added 14 points, and Dennis Walker grabbed 14 rebounds for Agassi Prep.

Quentin Hank led Calvary Chapel with 10 points.

The Meadows 74, Lake Mead 33 — At The Meadows, Jake Epstein scored 10 of his 21 points in the first quarter as the Mustangs routed the Eagles.

Eric Hirsberg added 11 points, and Brian Fridman and Max Histake each scored 10 for The Meadows, which grabbed an early 21-4 lead.

Brendon LeBaron led Lake Mead with 11 points.

Needles 54, Lincoln County 49 — At Needles, Calif., Wyatt Upshaw scored 13 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter to help the Mustangs overcome the Lynx.

Derek Shumway led Lincoln County with 19 points. McClain O’Connor added 11 points, and Mike Wood scored 10 for the Lynx.

Tonopah 48, Pahranagat Valley 46 — At Alamo, Tyler Gallegos had 16 points, and Connor Friel scored 13 as the Muckers held on to beat the Panthers.

Jimmy Hunt added 11 points for Tonopah, which nearly gave away all of its 10-point halftime advantage.

Jake Carter and Tabor Maxwell had 11 points apiece to lead Pahranagat Valley. The Panthers outscored Tonopah 15-6 in the fourth quarter and had four shots to tie or win the game but couldn’t convert.

Sandy Valley 35, Beatty 31 — At Sandy Valley, Lane Eastham and James Rau each scored nine points to help the Sidewinders edge the Hornets.

Jacob Zamora paced Beatty with 19 points.
