BOYS BASKETBALL: Silas, Chaparral earn final I-A playoff berth

Marc Silas had 15 of his 20 points in the first half to help Chaparral’s boys basketball team defeat Sunrise Mountain 77-52 on Tuesday at Del Sol.

The win gives the Cowboys the final berth in the Division I-A Southern Region tournament. They will travel to Clark at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Silas helped Chaparral take a 37-11 halftime advantage, and the Cowboys rolled from there.

Tyree McNeal had 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for Chaparral, and teammate Maharie Trotter added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Damon Heard led Sunrise Mountain with 22 points. Malik Cannon and Trellis Quinn added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Miners.
