BASEBALL: Martinez’s sac fly propels Roadrunners past the Dragons

Tech’s Abel Martinez hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning to drive in Bryan Casas for the go-ahead run as the Roadrunners edged Del Sol 9-8 at Silver Bowl Park on Friday.

Casas started the inning with a triple after the Dragons scored three runs to tie the game in the top half of the sixth.

Trevor Kephart picked up the win for the Roadrunners, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking out two over the final 4 1/3 innings.

Jayce Otis and Jaylen Birch each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Roadrunners.

Nathan Fenn took the loss for the Dragons. He pitched two innings, giving up two hits and one run.

Stanley Natale was 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Dragons and teammate Aaron Squires was 1-for-3 with a double.

Liberty 7, Arbor View 6 — At Durango, Dan Skelly’s RBI double highlighted a four-run sixth inning to help the Patriots top the Aggies in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Jay Martz added an RBI single in the frame, which helped Liberty take a 7-5 lead.

Josh McCollum doubled twice, and Jesse Keiser was 2-for-4 with a double for Liberty.

Arbor View’s Nick Quintana went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Joe Fitzhugh was 2-for-4 for the Aggies.

Liberty 13, Durango 0 — At Durango, freshman Michael Wong threw a one-hitter as the Patriots beat the Trailblazers in five innings in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Wong struck out six and walked two.

Keiser went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Preston Pavlica was 3-for-4 with a dobule and two RBis to lead the Libery offense.

Skelly added two hits and three RBIs for the Patriots.

Sierra Vista 9, Desert Oasis 3 — At Sierra Vista, Nolan Kingham was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to power the Lions over the Diamondbacks in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Cole Crosby went 2-for-3 with three runs for Sierra Vista, which led 6-0 after two innings.

Alex Tafesh homered for Desert Oasis.

Rancho 17, Green Valley 6 — At Green Valley, Dylan Pletsch went 4-for-5 with a double, two triples, three runs and three RBIs to lead the Rams to a five-inning win over the Gators in the Lion Kickoff Tournament

David Modler was 5-for-5 with a double, five runs and three RBIs for Rancho, and teammate Jose Verdugo went 3-for-4 with a double.

Keola Paragas went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs to lead Green Valley.

Rancho 6, Bishop Manogue 4 — At Durango, Juan Cruz hit a two-run homer with no outs in the bottom of the seventh to give the Rams the win over the Miners.

Zach Barnhart led off the inning with a double to set up Cruz’s shot.

Modler was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Green Valley 10, Bishop Manogue 0 — At Green Valley, Ryan Jackson tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven to lead the Gators over the Miners in five innings in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Keegan Smith was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Troy Cropper and Jarod Penniman each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Green Valley.

Arbor View 11, Durango 7 — At Durango, Gabe Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs to lead the Aggies over the Trailblazers in teh Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Arbor View led 6-1 after three innings, then scored five runs in the top of the fifth to extend its lead to 11-3.

Shadow Ridge 15, Legacy 0 — At Legacy, Jake Wilson and Travis Juneman combined on a two-hitter as the Mustangs routed the Longhorns in five innings in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Trevin Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run, and Francisco Robles was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run for Shadow Ridge. Antonio Arreola was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI for the Mustangs.

Basic 7, Centennial 3 — At Basic, Ryne Nelson, Taylor Ferdinand and Tanner Roundy each had an RBI in the sixth inning as the Wolves exploded for six runs to down the Bulldogs.

Logan Green scattered seven hits over 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win for the Wolves. He gave up two earned runs, struck out two and walked two.

Skyler Mahoney went 3-for-4, and Jorge Estrada had a double and a RBI for Basic.

Anthony Saccente took the loss for the Bulldogs. He gave up four earned runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. Saccente walked two and struck out seven.

Travis Stevens led the Bulldogs with a double and two RBIs.

Bonanza 9, Rapid City Central (S.D.) 1 — At Bonanza, the Bengals sent 13 batters to the plate in a six-run sixth inning to get the win in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

With the game tied 1-1, Casey Ladeira led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and scored on Hunter Junge’s double to give Bonanza the lead.

Ladeira was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Junge went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Cruz Nevarez was 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base for the Bengals.

Eric Schultz allowed one run on six hits in six innings to get the win.

Faith Lutheran 14, Coronado 1 — At Coronado, Erich Uelmen tossed a four-hitter with six strikeouts to lead the Crusaders to a six-inning win over the Cougars in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Uelmen also had a double and four RBIs. Greg Sylvester helped out with three hits and three RBIs for Faith Lutheran.

Foothill 10, Lincoln County 0 — At Eldorado, Spencer Throgmorton threw four hitless innings and the Falcons routed the Lynx in a five-inning game in the Sundevil Invitatinoal.

Throgmorton allowed two walks and struck out six in four innings before being lifted for Ricky Kinney. It was the second consecutive game that Foothill lifted a starter with a no-hitter.

Kinney struck out the first batter he faced before giving up a single to Derek Shumway.

Kinney struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Shay Landers was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs to lead the offense.

Foothill 18, Desert Pines 1 — At Eldorado, Ryan Moyes was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs, and Austin Wilson drove in three runs to help the Falcons rout the Jaguars in the Sundevil Invitational.

Starter Alec Mathis allowed a run on two hits in three innings with seven strikeouts to get the win.

Desert Pines 11, Lincoln County 1 — At Eldorado, Silverio Milian struck out four in a complete game three-hitter to help the Jaguars to a win over the Lynx in the Sundevil Invitational.

Jose Avelino had three RBIs for Desert Pines, and Natron Auelua-Naki added a triple.

Cimarron-Memorial 6, West (Utah) 4 — At St. George, Utah, Micquel Robinson went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI to help the Spartans hold off West in the Little Caesar’s Classic.

Logan Bottrell went 2-for-3 with a double and a run and also picked up the save.

Trevor Lippard was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Niko Decolati was 2-for-4 with a run for the Spartans.

Cimarron-Memorial 7, Mountain Crest (Utah) 2 — At St. George, Utah, Adam Mitchell went 2-for-4 with four RBIs as the Spartans topped Mountain Crest in the Little Caesar’s Invitational.

Bottrell was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Tyler Giovinco was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Cimarron.

Canyon View (Utah) 10, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Canyon View limited the Pioneers to one hit en route to the win.

Canyon Springs starter Rashaad Jones allowed one earned run on one hit in four innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Pahranagat Valley 12, Virgin Valley JV 0 — At Alamo, freshman Tabor Maxwell fired a one-hitter to lead the Panthers to the win in the Pahranagat Valley Invitational.

Maxwell struck out 13 in the five-inning game.
