BASEBALL: Cofer’s homer in seventh lifts Cougars

Jackson Cofer’s two-run home run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning Saturday broke a 7-7 tie and lifted Coronado’s baseball team to a 9-8 win at Desert Oasis.
Sterling Saltz went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs, and Anthony Olheiser was 2-for-3 with two runs for the Cougars, who led 7-0 before the Diamondbacks got four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to tie the game.
Cofer finished 2-for-4 for Coronado.
Bryson Stott was 4-for-5 and scored twice for the Diamondbacks, who had the potential tying run at second and winning run at first with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Coronado reliever Jacob Klein struck out Desert Oasis’ clean-up hitter to end the game.
Zach Rickard was 2-for-4 with two doubles, and Alex Tafesh homered for Desert Oasis.
Sierra Vista 12, Foothill 8 — At Sierra Vista, Alex Kern had two doubles and four RBIs, and the Mountain Lions used an eight-run sixth inning to erase an 8-4 deficit and beat the Falcons.
Kavan Alferaz went 3-for-4 with a double, and Sean Cutolo was 2-for-4 with a double for Sierra Vista, which collected seven hits in the sixth inning.
Nick Cardinale homered for Foothill.
Parowan (Utah) 14-19, Virgin Valley 0-1 — At Mesquite, Jake Topham tossed a four-hitter in the opener as the Rams swept a pair of five-inning games from the Bulldogs.
Tonopah 7-11, Yerington 5-1 — At Tonopah, Connor Friel improved to 5-0 on the season by collecting the win in the second game as the Muckers swept the Lions.
Friel struck out seven in the nightcap. Winning pitcher Jason Carman fanned seven in the first game for Tonopah.
