GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: Dort, Cougars top Falcons

Sara Dort won a 2.5-mile race in 15 minutes, 50.4 seconds on Wednesday, and Coronado’s girls cross country team took six of the top eight places in a 20-39 win at Foothill.
The Cougars’ Logan Lucas was second in 16:00.9, followed by Foothill’s Alyse Vanek in 16:04.1.
Desert Shields win three-team meet
At Cheyenne, Jazmine Moore won a 2.65-mile race in 17:51 to help the Desert Shields win a three-team meet.
Cheyenne had 24 points. Western was second with 39, and Laughlin did not field a full team.
Western’s Patti Ramirez was second in 19:22, and teammate Jessica Moreno was third in 19:38.
Trailblazers take tri-meet
At Desert Breeze Park, Leticia Salazar-Sandoval won a 2.5-mile race in 18:01, and Durango runners took the top five spots to win a three-team meet.
Durango had 15 points. Sierra Vista was second with 50 points, and Word of Life did not field a full team.
Courtney Lugo was second in 19:03, and teammate Andrea Close took third in 19:29 for the Trailblazers.
Wolves’ depth too much for Patriots
At Liberty, Basic placed six runners in the top eight and held off the Patriots, 24-34.
Liberty’s Sydney Groom won the 2.5-mile race in 17:54.4. Megan McCarthy was second for Basic in 18:03.3 with teammates Brittney Ciaramella (18:39.9) and Bailey Gallup (18:53.4) fourth and fifth, respectively.
Briana Padilla finished third in 18:29.3 for Liberty.
Sundevils hold off Dragons
At Eldorado, the Sundevils took three of the top four spots to defeat Del Sol, 22-36.
Sayanna Roy won the 3.1-mile race for the Dragons in 23:44.7, but Eldorado runners took the next three spots.
Karen Gonzalez (24:19.0) was second, followed by teammates Alannah Atherton (25:21.4) and Mayra Corona (25:23.9).
