VOLLEYBALL: Panthers win three in Arizona tourney

Lexi Riggs had six kills, and Stephanie Herman had 15 assists, three kills and four digs to help Palo Verde’s girls volleyball team to a 25-4, 25-23 win over Sahuaro (Ariz.) in the Catalina Foothills Falcon Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.

Faryn Duncan added 10 digs, and Makenzie Paulk supplied seven digs for the Panthers, who received a first-round bye in the championship bracket of the tournament, which begins Saturday.

Palo Verde 2, Empire (Ariz.) 0 — At Tucson, Ariz., Herman had 23 assists, and Kendall Cheval added nine kills as the Panthers topped Empire, 25-13, 25-14 in the Catalina Foothills Falcon Invitational.

Duncan added 13 digs, and McCall Phillips had eight kills and six digs for Palo Verde.

Palo Verde 2, Amphi (Ariz.) 0 — At Tucson, Ariz., Herman supplied 20 assists and three aces, and Duncan had 10 digs to lead the Panthers to a 25-5, 25-3 sweep of the Cougars.

Kellie Soderborg had five kills for Palo Verde.

Mountain View 2-2, Laughlin 0-1 — At Mountain View, Lindsay Kessler had 15 kills and four aces in two matches as the Saints won twice, topping the Cougars 26-24, 25-21 in the opener and 25-13, 23-25, 18-16 in the nightcap.

Aariel Armstrong added 10 kills and five aces on the day for Mountain View.

Arbor View wins three

At Legacy, Jenna McClure had 41 assists to help Arbor View to three wins in the Longhorn Invitational.

The Aggies were 25-14, 25-23 winners over Moapa Valley to start the day. Arbor View topped Mojave, 25-11, 25-20, before beating the host Longhorns, 25-12, 25-13.

Tamani Simmons had 21 kills, and Alex Porter added 18 kills for Arbor View.
