GIRLS BASKETBALL: Wharton’s big night elevates Valley over Coronado

Kennedy Wharton had 27 points and 16 rebounds Wednesday to lead Valley’s girls basketball team to a 61-47 win over visiting Coronado.

Gabrielle Cabanero added 21 points and five steals for the Vikings, who led 20-15 at halftime and outscored Coronado 22-12 in the third quarter to take control.

Samantha Green scored 10 points, and Dajah Washington added eight points for the Cougars.

Del Sol 55, Tech 46 — At Tech, Sayanna Roy scored 14 points to help lead the Dragons past the Roadrunners.

Astrid Rodriguez, Alina Marruffo and Taylor Curtis each tallied 10 points for Del Sol, which led 40-21 after three quarters.

Haylee Holsclaw scored 16 points, and Clarissa Szluha supplied 11 points for Tech.

Rancho 47, Shadow Ridge 39 — At Rancho, LaKissa Martin had 16 points to lead the Rams by the Mustangs.

Darje Martin added 11 points and six rebounds, and Maureen Macato scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter for Rancho, which led only 25-24 after three quarters.

Kaila Hurley led Shadow Ridge with nine points.

Bonanza 57, Silverado 38 — At Bonanza, Tanganika Hunt racked up 19 points to lift the Bengals to an easy win over the Skyhawks.

Alexis Harris added nine points, and Acacia Williams tallied 10 rebounds and four steals for Bonanza.

Deja Siaka had 13 points to lead Silverado.

Desert Oasis 65, Spring Valley 38 — At Desert Oasis, Ashlynn Sharp scored eight of her 15 points during a 26-4 first-quarter run that propelled the Diamondbacks by the Grizzlies.

Mikala Kirby had 19 points, and Thessa Fernando scored 12 for Desert Oasis.

Asiah Stone, Jessica Rafay and Stephanie Gil each had eight points for Spring Valley.

Arbor View 67, Cimarron-Memorial 27 — At Cimarron, Janae Strode poured in 12 points to give the Aggies a victory over the Spartans.

Dana Lewis and Jocelyn Jordan each added 11 points for Arbor View, which jumped out to a 35-12 halftime lead.

Celine Acfalle had 10 points to lead Cimarron.

Clovis West (Calif.) 74, Foothill 33 — At Bishop Gorman, Emily Anderson had 22 points to lead Clovis West by the Falcons in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Portia Neale added 19 points for Clovis West, which led 29-8 after one quarter.

Katey Roquemore had 14 points for Foothill.

Canyon Springs 72, Mojave 17 — At Canyon Springs, Daijhan Cooks recorded 21 points, 11 rebounds and four steals, and teammate Alexia Thrower tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Pioneers downed the Rattlers.

Cherise Beynon supplied 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals for Canyon Springs, which got 10 rebounds from Trimece Thomas.

Rayena Rael led Mojave with six points.

Chaparral 58, Pahrump Valley 25 — At Pahrump, Rosa Richardson had 17 points, and Marcia Hawkins scored 15 as the Cowboys downed the Trojans.

Abigail Delgado added 12 points for Chaparral, which led 37-12 at the half.

Shayla Dance led Pahrump with seven points.

The Meadows 46, Beatty 34 — At Beatty, Anjali Daulat poured in 17 points, and the Mustangs opened the game on a 15-5 run on their way to a win over the Hornets.

Bailey Gosse added 15 points for The Meadows.

Christina Thompson paced Beatty with 11 points.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
