BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Depth lifts Falcons over Dragons

Foothill’s boys cross country team placed four runners in the top five on Wednesday en route to a 20-43 win over visiting Del Sol.

Andrew Babakitis finished second in the 2.5-mile race for Foothill in a time of 14 minutes, 32.2 seconds. Teammate Jesse Dalton was third in 14:59.2, and Christopher Ayala (15:29.5) and Mitchell Anderson (15:33.9) rounded out the top five for the Falcons.

Del Sol’s Omar Rubio took first in 14:22.9.

Legacy breezes by Bonanza

At Legacy, the Longhorns had 12 of the top 14 finishers and posted a 21-40 win over Bonanza.

Bonanza’s Axel Abad won the 3.1-mile race in 18:58.

Legacy took the next four spots as Romone Frias was second in 19:09, followed by teammates Thomas Bugnet (19:47), Alberto Vallejo (19:51) and Kelly Rife (19:52).

Rams down Canyon Springs

At Canyon Springs, Rancho runners took four of the top five spots to help the Rams to a 20-44 win over the Pioneers.

Canyon Springs’ Ryan Samano won the 2.9-mile race in 17:57.

Rancho’s Chase Norberg was second in 18:15, followed by teammates Micha Tice (18:40), Dylan Jensen (18:45) and Dante Rosino (18:54).

Gaels use depth to top Spartans

At Bishop Gorman, Cimarron-Memorial took three of the top four places, but the Gaels had the next seven runners across the finish line to edge the Spartans, 28-31.

Cimarron’s Nicholas Gonzalez won the 3.1-mile race in 18:31. Gorman’s Jacob Holland (19:41) was second, followed by Cimarron’s James Hurtt (20:28) and Joel Castillo (21:12).

Wolves place three in top four, edge Eldorado

At Eldorado, the Sundevils' Eddie Esquviel won the 3.1-mile race in 17:35.8, but Basic took the next three spots to win the meet, 24-35.

Sam Stewart was second for the Wolves in 18:55.9, followed by teammates Kendrick Peterson (19:16.1) and Binyam Bayu (19:17.9).

Wildcats nip Silverado

At Silverado, Hector Ortega won a 2.37-mile race in 13:45 and helped Las Vegas to a 27-28 win over the Skyhawks.

Silverado took the next three places, with Austin Ludden (14:03) second, Asimwe Oben-Nyarko (14:06) third and Ryan Murray (14:12) fourth.
