TRACK: Maxey, Helm help Crusaders capture Bushman Invitational title

Clarissa Maxey won three individual events and set two meet records, and teammate Macy Helm posted two wins as Faith Lutheran’s girls track and field team captured the title at the Grant Bushman Invitational on Friday at Moapa Valley High.
The Crusaders, who also won three of the four relays, finished with 192 points. White Pine (101 points) was second, followed by Boulder City with 94 points.
Maxey won the 100-meter dash in a meet-record time of 12.32 seconds and also set a meet record in the 400 (59.13). She took the 200 in 25.18.
Helm was first in the 100 hurdles in 17.04 and won the 300 hurdles (49.6). Cayla Nikodemus of Faith Lutheran set a meet record in the long jump at 17 feet, 4 inches.
Jeneke Heerema of The Meadows won the 800 by nearly two seconds, crossing the finish line in a meet-record time of 2:27.49.
Virgin Valley’s Karson Bryant equaled the meet record in the pole vault, clearing 9-0.
BOYS
Chandler Harkins swept the distance events, and Boulder City scored 145½ points to win the team title at the Grant Bushman Invitational.
Faith Lutheran was a close second, finishing with 126½ points.
Harkins won the 1,600 by more than eight seconds, crossing the line in 4:44.23. He cruised in the 3,200 as well, posting a time of 10:32.54.
Faith Lutheran’s Mark Rubalcaba won the long jump (21-10½) and triple jump (44-8), setting meet records in both events.
D’Khari Hicks of Faith Lutheran also won two events, taking the 400 in a meet-record time of 48.73 in addition to the 200 (22.18).
Virgin Valley pole vaulter Tyson Teerlink set a meet record with a mark of 14-6.
