BASEBALL: Van Stone’s suicide squeeze sends Falcons past Eagles

 

Tyler Van Stone’s suicide squeeze bunt with one out in the bottom of the seventh brought home Anthony Lopez with the winning run as Foothill edged visiting Boulder City, 4-3.

Lopez led off with an infield single and went to second on a wild pitch. After a groundout, Lopez advanced to third on another wild pitch, and Bligh Madris was walked intentionally to bring up Van Stone.

Van Stone bunted the first pitch down the first-base line, and the Eagles were unable to make a play.

Ryan Moyes went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Madris and Royce Salay each went 2-for-2 for Foothill.

Spencer Throgmorton threw two scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

Bill Barth was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Boulder City.

Sunrise Mountain 3, Cheyenne 1 — At Cheyenne, Frankie Apodaca pitched a complete game and struck out nine batters to help the Miners hold off the Desert Shields.

With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the seventh, Ted Taylor singled home Andrew Baca with one out to put Sunrise Mountain on top. The Miners tacked on an insurance run when Saul Blanco reached second on a throwing error, scoring Brandon Medeiros.

Lamon Harvey hit a triple and scored Cheyenne’s lone run in the sixth.

Durango 3, Centennial 0 — At Durango, Anthony Parry went 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs to lead the Trailblazers to a win over the Bulldogs.

Ricky Mesa allowed just two hits over 5 2/3 innings for Durango, and Vince Lombardi earned the save.

Arbor View 7, Silverado 6 — At Silverado, P.J. Gonzalez finished 2-for-2 with a double, home run and three RBIs to help the Aggies hold off the Skyhawks.

Nate Stepna went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and a stolen base for the Aggies.

Vincent Taormina was 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Silverado.

Pahrump Valley 15-15, Virgin Valley 0-4 — At Pahrump, Devin Rily fired a no-hitter in the first game to lead the Trojans to the doubleheader sweep.

Rily struck out eight and walked none and needed just 52 pitches in the five-inning contest.

Dylan Ault, A.J. Segura, Richard Greene and Cody Kovatch each had two hits and two RBIs in the opener.

In the second game, Ault went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBIs to power the Trojans to the win.

Josh Mortensen was 2-for-2 with a triple and four runs, Christian Balding went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Aukai Alameda was 3-for-3 with a double for Pahrump in the nightcap.

Shadow Ridge 6, Valley 4 — At Valley, Ben Fitzhugh went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI to help the Mustangs edge the Vikings.

Four Mustangs’ pitchers combined on a six-hitter.

Western 5, Del Sol 0 — At Del Sol, Daniel Carrillo tossed a five-hitter to lead the Warriors by the Dragons.
Carrillo struck out four and walked two, needing only 79 pitches to go the distance.

Ryan Garbowski was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, and Javier Ruiz was 2-for-4 for Western.

Rancho 11, Legacy 3 — At Legacy, Jose Verdugo went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Rams past the Longhorns.

Zach Barnhart also homered for Rancho, which took over with four runs in the third inning.

Keifer McLendon had a double and a triple for the Rams.

Palo Verde 11, Eldorado 5 — At Eldorado, Brett Bovee went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to help the Panthers rally past the Sundevils.

Taylor Fajardo was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs for Palo Verde, which trailed 4-2 after three innings.

Teammate Alex Blutman went 2-for-3.

Tech 10, Canyon Springs 6 — At Canyon Springs, Patrick Camburn went 4-for-4 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs to help the Roadrunners edge the Pioneers.

Tech’s Sebastian Fitzgerald pitched a complete game, striking out eight and allowing two earned runs, and Elias Peinado went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Joe Jackson was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Canyon Springs.

Cimarron-Memorial 16, Spring Valley 8 — At Spring Valley, Nick Borowski was 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the Spartans over the Grizzlies.

Niko Decolati went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Matt Mosca drove in three runs for Cimarron, which scored 10 runs in the fourth inning.

Connery Callaway went 3-for-4 with a run, and Zane Drachler, Michael Macove and Josh Durazo each added two hits for Spring Valley.

The Meadows 14-15, Lincoln County 15-11 — At The Meadows, Trevor Litwin was 3-for-3 with three runs, and Justin Diamond had three RBIs as the Mustangs salvaged a split with the Lynx.

Austin Neal was 2-for-3 and scored three times in the nightcap for The Meadows, which led 10-1 after three innings.

Colton Johnson hit a grand slam as part of a six-run sixth inning for Lincoln County.

In the opener, Chris Florence’s sacrifice fly scored Mike Wood with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, capping a huge comeback by the Lynx. Lincoln County trailed 14-8 before scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Johnson finished the first game 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Florence was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Conor Cheek went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs for The Meadows in the first game.

Lake Mead 12-3, Agassi Prep 10-17 — At Lake Mead, the Eagles and the Stars split a doubleheader.
Daniel Hunter and Julien Korastinsky each went 4-for-5 with two doubles to lead Lake Mead in the opening game.

Cameron Burrell went 4-for-4 with two doubles to lead Agassi in the nightcap.

‘Charismatic’ prep baseball coach dies at 57

Liberty baseball coach Rich Ebarb died Wednesday night, the school confirmed. Ebarb has a long coaching resume in Southern Nevada.
