BASEBALL: McAninch, Cimarron push past Bengals

Tanner McAninch hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth to give Cimarron-Memorial it’s first lead of the game, and the Spartans held on for a 6-4 home win over Bonanza in baseball on Monday.

McAninch’s triple gave Cimarron a 5-4 lead, and Niko Decolati doubled home McAninch for the final magin.

Nick Borowski was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Logan Bottrell went 3-for-4 for Cimarron, which got a solo homer from Josh Nuernberg.

Joaquin Orozco was 3-for-4, and he hit a three-run homer in the top of the first to give the Bengals the early lead.

Del Sol 10, Eldorado 4 — At Eldorado, Brandon Hubbs drove in four runs, and winning pitcher Nick Trujillo was 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Dragons beat the Sundevils in a Southeast League game.

Trujillo went the distance, allowing nine hits and striking out 12. Andrew Natale was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and Daniel Maloney was 3-for-4 for Del Sol.

Lucio Arreola finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Eldorado.

Coronado 13, Foothill 6 — At Foothill, Chandler Blanchard and Miles Bice hit back-to-back home runs in a six-run first inning, and the Cougars cruised past the Falcons in a Southeast League game.

Blanchard finished 2-for-5, including his three-run shot. Teammate James Anderson was 3-for-3.

Tyler Brown, Julian Burrola and Michael Pollex had two hits apiece for Coronado.

Bligh Madris was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Tyler Van Stone went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Foothill.

Chaparral 10, Tech 0 — At Chaparral, Mark Nick O’Connor fired a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk to lead the Cowboys to the six-inning win over the Roadrunners.

O’Connor, a freshman, improved to 6-0.

Tommy Crone was 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Eduardo Jimenez went 3-for-3 with two runs for Chaparral.

Desert Oasis 14, Legacy 3 — At Legacy, Cody Schmidt went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and two stolen bases to help the Diamondbacks rout the Longhorns.

Chris Van Kuren was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Chase Adams went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Desert Oasis, which scored eight runs in the third to take a 12-3 lead. Jordyn Compehos went 2-for-2 for the Diamondbacks, who had 21 hits.

Legacy’s Joey Wright was 3-for-3.

Liberty 25, Basic 4 — At Liberty, Jesse Keiser was 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs to help the Patriots to the five-inning win.

Josh McCollum was 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, four RBIs and three runs, and winning pitcher Chris Bradford went 3-for-3 with a double.

Liberty trailed 3-0 after a half inning, but scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first and 10 in the third.

Boulder City 19, Virgin Valley 1 — At Mesquite, Austin Wishard went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and four RBIs to lead the Eagles over the Bulldogs.

D.J. Koopman was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Colton Bosnos was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs for Boulder City.

Taylor Wold threw a three-hitter, striking out eight, to get the win for the Eagles, who were helped by 11 Virgin Valley errors.

Moapa Valley 36, Desert Pines 6 — At Desert Pines, Kasen Hughes went 5-for-6 with two triples, three RBIs and five runs as the Pirates dominated the Jaguars.

Conner Mortensen finished 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and four runs, and Chad Jones went 3-for-5 with a double, four runs and three RBIs for the Pirates.

Bunker Wimer hit a home run, and winning pitcher Jared Repp struck out eight batters in five innings and hit a double for Moapa Valley, which scored 10 runs in each of the first two innings.

Bishop Gorman 21, Centennial 2 — At Centennial, Kenny Meimerstorf was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBIs to help the Gaels beat the Bulldogs.

Andrew Newson hit a grand slam for Gorman, and Nick Gates was 4-for-6 with two doubles and two RBIs for Gorman.

Gates also went the distance, scattering eight hits, to get the win.

Valley 15, Mojave 4 — At Valley, Nick Schellenger went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs and pitched a three-hitter to lead the Vikings to a five-inning win over the Rattlers.

Randall Munoz was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Valley.

Jordan Gainey was 2-for-2 with a double for Mojave.

‘Charismatic’ prep baseball coach dies at 57

Liberty baseball coach Rich Ebarb died Wednesday night, the school confirmed. Ebarb has a long coaching resume in Southern Nevada.
