Silverado 2013 Baseball Capsule

SILVERADO

Head coach: Brian Whitaker, 19th season

2012 record: 24-10 (11-3 Southeast)

Returning lettermen (starters): Seven (three)

Top players: P/OF David Kuzma (Sr.), C Vince Taormina (So.), P/2B Hunter Welch (Sr.), SS Dillon Johnson (So.)

Outlook: The Skyhawks return only three starters but Kuzma, who hit .393 with 29 RBIs and went 6-2 with two saves and a 1.51 ERA in 60 2/3 innings, coming back certainly helps.

Welch was 5-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 32 innings last season.

Taormina (.333, 1 HR, 29 RBIs) and Johnson (3 HR, 20 RBIs) are back to help the offense.

"The Skyhawks will be a mix of veterans and newcomers to the varsity level," said Whitaker, who has five sophomores and four freshmen on his roster. "Silverado will be in pursuit of its 17th consecutive playoff appearance."
