DIVISION III: Lakes, Hodges help Cougars take second in Southern League meet

Heavyweight JuQuan Lakes and 152-pounder Jake Hodges each won an individual title Saturday to help Laughlin finish second in the Division III Southern League wrestling meet in Ely.

White Pine won the team title with 179 points. Laughlin had 125 points, followed by West Wendover with 108. Spring Mountain (78) was fourth, two points ahead of fifth-place Indian Springs.

The host Bobcats had seven individual champions — Christopher Gamberg (106), Drue Ashby (132), Ben Miller (138), Emmitt Finnicum (145), Aryton Almberg (160), Harveen Singh (182) and Wyatt Williams (195).

Also winning flights were Lincoln County’s Jesse Matthews (113) and Daniel Olson (120), Pahranagat Valley’s Jeremy Minick (126) and Chandlar Palmer (170), and West Wendover’s Garry Rippetoe (220).

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to next week’s state tournament in Reno.
