Payne’s double-double helps Legacy girls open tourney with win

Tori Payne had 17 points and 13 rebounds Wednesday to help Legacy’s girls basketball team outlast Los Osos (Calif.) 72-60 in the opening round of the West Coast Holiday Festival in Norco, Calif.

Justice Akins had 20 points for the Longhorns, who outscored the Grizzlies 12-0 in overtime. Deja Brown added 16 points for Legacy.

Sierra Vista 36, Buena Park (Calif.) 35 — At Anaheim, Calif., Kennedy Nieves made the front end of a 1-and-1 with less than three seconds to play to lift the Mountain Lions by the Coyotes in the opening round of the Lady Rebel Basketball Classic.

Enas Ajaj tallied 11 points, and Melia Tadytin added nine points and 13 rebounds for Sierra Vista.

Westview (Calif.) 59, Bishop Gorman 45 — At San Diego, Jamie Legaspi tallied 18 points, and the Wolverines busted out to a 20-8 first-quarter lead on their way to a win over the Gaels in the opening round of pool play at the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic.

Ty Wheetly-Amaya added 12 points, and Sarah Reich scored 10 for Westview.

Raychel Stanley paced Gorman wth 15 points, and teammate Sandria Bolden scored 11.

Eisenhower (Calif.) 43, Cimarron-Memorial 32 — At Riverside, Calif., the Eagles held off the Spartans in the opening round of pool play in the Lady Bears Holiday Classic.

Chalon Henderson had eight points and 17 rebounds, and Emily Cox and Taya Harper each scored eight points for Cimarron.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
