ROUNDUP: Centennial boys dominate Gorman, Indian Springs

Centennial’s boys cross country team claimed the top 14 spots Tuesday on its way to a dominant victory over visiting Bishop Gorman and Indian Springs.

Wyatt Morris won the 3.1-mile race in 19 minutes, 27 seconds.

Justin Galaviz was second in 19:28, and George Espino took third in 19:28.

The top six individuals, all from Centennial, came across the finish line only three seconds apart.

Cowboys use depth to beat Pirates
At Overton, Chaparral had four of the top five finishers on its way to a 21-40 victory over Moapa Valley.

Moapa Valley’s Josh Omer won the 2.7-mile race in 18:31.5.

Chaparral’s Ricardo Salas was second in 18:33.1, and teammate Nick Pearson took third in 19:10.3.

Panthers top Aggies
At Floyd Lamb Park, Palo Verde took eight of the top nine spots on its way to a 20-43 victory over Arbor View.

Arbor View’s Cole Jones won the 2.9-mile race in 16:30.

Palo Verde’s Pedro Rios was second in 16:38, and teammate Andrew Goldsmith took third in 16:53.

Zimdars leads Roadrunners to victory
At Desert Pines, Zach Zimdars won a 2.8-mile race in 16:38 to lead Tech (18 points) past Sunrise Mountain (44) and Desert Pines (no score).

Tech’s Albert Munoz was second in 17:17, and Sunrise Mountain’s Manuel Velazquez took third in 17:40.

Wood, Crusaders edge Cheyenne
At Cheyenne, Chase Wood won a 2.6-mile race in 15:00, leading the Crusaders to a 27-28 win over the Desert Shields.

Daniel Ludwig was second in 15:31, and Tevin Brown finished third in 15:46 for Cheyenne.

DeCaires, Grizzlies top Mountain Lions
At Spring Valley, Desmond DeCaires won a 3.1-mile race in 17:57 and lead the Grizzlies to a 16-47 victory over the Mountain Lions.

Steven Thomas (20:20), Brandon Potesta (20:26) and Andrew Moffat (20:27) took the next three spots for Spring Valley.

Cougars use depth to beat Sundevils

At Sonata Park, Eldorado’s Eddie Esquivel won the the 2.8-mile race in 15:47.6, but Coronado took the next 16 spots to claim a 20-43 victory over the Sundevils.

Coronado’s Alan Ekanger was second in 15:58, and teammate Sterling Saltz took third in 17:33.5.

Marshall, Falcons top Patriots
At Foothill, Brian Marshall won a 2.5-mile race in 13:52.8 to lead the Falcons to a 25-34 victory over Liberty.

Liberty’s Colin Schultz was second in 14:10.4, and Foothill’s Arie Dennis took third in 14:59.9.

With less than a week remaining in the season, Coronado tennis coach Dave Willingham is clinging to two dreams, as his boys and girls teams chase Class 5A state titles.
