SMALL SCHOOLS: Koopman’s no-no lifts Eagles into 3A South title game

Karlee Koopman tossed a no-hitter with five strikeouts and hit a solo home run Friday as host Boulder City’s softball team advanced to the Class 3A Southern League title game with a 10-0 win over Moapa Valley.
Boulder City (28-3) will meet Virgin Valley (10-20) in the title game at 10 a.m. today at Boulder City.
The Eagles would have to lose twice to not win the tournament.
Taylor McKeever was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Ali Rants finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored for Boulder City.
Virgin Valley 22, Moapa Valley 6 — Halle Wakefield pitched a five-inning four-hitter and went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs and three RBIs as the Bulldogs moved into the title game.
Alora Bonner went 2-for-5 with four runs and two RBIs for Virgin Valley.
Moapa Valley 15, Virgin Valley 5 — Chanel LaCroix pitched a five-inning three-hitter, and McCall Smith went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Pirates (9-14) over the Bulldogs in the game’s first day.
CLASS 2A
Lincoln County earned a berth in the Class 2A Southern League championship game with a 4-3 win over Needles at Laughlin.
The Lynx (24-4) will face Needles (18-9) again today at 10 a.m. in the title game. Needles must beat Lincoln County twice to win the double-elimination tournament.
The Mustangs got into the final by routing Mountain View, 15-0 in five innings in the day’s final game.
CLASS 1A
Tonopah used a five-run seventh inning and took advantage of eight errors Friday to stun Indian Springs in the winners’ bracket final of the Class 1A Southern League tournament at Sunrise Mountain.
The Muckers (8-8) will play the Thunderbirds (20-1) again today at 10 a.m. in the title game. Indian Springs must beat Tonopah twice to capture the double-elimination tournament.
The Thunderbirds still got to the final by beating Pahranagat Valley, 11-7 in the day’s final game.
Heather Thormahlen went 5-for-5 with a triple, two doubles and five RBIs, and Baylee McCormick was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Indian Springs. Teammate Tessa Lounsbury was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBIs.
Bailee Hosier and Traci Strong each doubled for the Panthers (15-10).
