2A LEAGUE: Phillips, Mustangs capture crown

Zarek Phillips carded a 10-over-par 82 at Coyote Springs on Tuesday to lead Needles' boys golf team to the Class 2A Southern League championship.

The Mustangs had a team score of 457, just six strokes better than second-place White Pine. The Meadows also earned a state berth, finishing third at 470. Lake Mead was fourth at 477, followed by Tonopah at 605 and Round Mountain at 638.

White Pine's Ty Pickel and Nick Marich shared medalist honors with 78s. The Bobcats also got an 84 from Chris Young.

Darron Wilson added a 91 for Needles, which got a 94 from Dakotah Mejia and 95s from Fidel Connacher and Lewis Larrabee.

Thomas Isaacs and Ian Onufrieff led The Meadows with 88s. Michael Zheng added a 92, and Ryan Fink shot 94 for The Meadows.

Individual qualifiers for next week's state meet were: Lake Mead's Quayd Brook, Victor Banos and Landon Sorenson; Round Mountain's Clancey Carver, and Mountain View's Keith Flowers.
