Van Engen leads Pahrump girls to Meadows Invitational title

Regan Van Engen won two individual events and ran a leg on two winning relay teams Saturday to lead Pahrump Valley’s girls track team to a first-place finish in The Meadows Invitational.

Van Engen won the long jump with an effort of 16 feet, 4 inches and took the triple jump with a mark of 32-10. She also ran a leg on the 800-meter relay team that won in 1 minute, 48.12 seconds and the 400 relay team that won in 51.45.

The Trojans had 152 points, just five more than second-place Desert Oasis. Boulder City was third with 102, followed by the host Mustangs with 82 and Moapa Valley with 78.

Pahrump’s Megan Hamrick swept the throwing events, taking the shot put with a mark of 34-3½ and winning the discus with a throw of 107-4.

The Meadows’ Lauren Henry won the 100 in 12.31 and the 200 in 26.26.

Pahrump’s boys completed a sweep of the team titles, scoring 141½ points. Boulder City was second with 105, followed by Desert Oasis with 90, Spring Mountain with 78 and Moapa Valley with 71.

Trojan athletes and relay teams won five events, including a nail-biting victory by Bryce Moser in the 3,200. Moser finished in 11:00.26 to nip Boulder City’s Chandler Harkins (11:00.92) by less than a second.

Desert Oasis’ Frankie Martinez collected three wins, taking the 800 in 2:08.61, the 1,600 in 4:52.52 and running a leg on the 3,200 relay team that won in 8:50.77.
